Abstract:
A method and composition for the reduction of the emission of selenium into the environment from the burning of fossil fuels with the use of two chemistries, either individually or in combination with each other. The method uses polydithiocarbamic compounds, including polydithiocarbamic compounds derived from a polymer produced from acrylic-x and alkylamine in conjunction with a scrubber process to capture selenium and reduce its emission in aqueous phase blowdown. The method and composition also helps reduce corrosion in the scrubber process.
Abstract:
A composition comprising a polymer derived from at least two monomers: acrylic-x and an alkylamine, wherein said polymer is modified to contain a functional group capable of scavenging one or more compositions containing one or more metals is disclosed. These polymers have many uses in various mediums, including wastewater systems.
Abstract:
Processes for removing color from a paper mill waste effluent and for removing color from a textile plant waste effluent utilizing an amphoteric copolymer/polyamine combination are described. A preferred amphoteric copolymer is poly(dimethylaminoethylacrylate methyl chloride quaternary salt/acrylic acid) and a preferred polyamine is a polymeric reaction product of epichlorohydrin and dimethylamine.
Abstract:
The invention comprises an apparatus for optimizing the dosage of a chemical waste water treatment agent using a fluorescent tracer by processing a sample of the waste water stream and allowing continuous on-stream monitoring of the performance of the chemical waste water treatment agent. The apparatus is comprised of a series of components that sample the waste stream, process the sample for analysis, analyze the sample, record the data in a historical database and, based upon the analysis as compared to historical data, adjust the chemical feed system to optimize the chemical waste water treatment agent according to the programmed optimization logic.
Abstract:
Continuous monitor to determine effective performance of a flocculant used to dewater a sludge stream, in which a voltage waveform of water clarity, generated by a sensor opposed to a light beam transmitted across the stream, is digitized by a comparator; the comparator is insensitive to sludge flow rate.
