Abstract: An electronic device may be coupled to an accessory such as a pair of earphones. The earphones may have noise cancellation features that may be implemented using noise cancellation circuitry in the earphones or in the electronic device. The earphones may have ear presence sensor structures that determine whether speakers in the earphones are present at the ears of a user. In one suitable embodiment, control circuitry in the earphones may be used to adjust noise cancellation circuitry in the earphones based on information from the ear presence sensor structures. For example, the control circuitry may deactivate noise cancellation circuitry in response to receiving information from the ear presence sensor structures indicating that the earphones have been removed from a user's ears. In another suitable embodiment, control circuitry in the electronic device may adjust noise cancellation circuitry in the electronic device based on information from the ear presence sensor structures.

Abstract: An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device includes a shield that provides thermal and electromagnetic interference (“EMI”) shielding benefits. The shield is secured with fan assemblies by airtight seals to prevent air leakage and promote a pressured volume when the fan assemblies are running. Further, the shield can direct airflow from the fan assemblies to one or more thermally conductive components, where the airflow can convectively cool the thermally conductive components and exit the electronic device. The shield is made from a metal, and when the shield covers a circuit board, the shield protects an EMI barrier for integrated circuits located on the circuit board. Moreover, the shield can provide a single-piece, monolithic body that provides advantages over multiple shields, such as eliminating gaps in the shield for air leakage and EMI intrusion, increasing air circulation efficiency, and decreasing costs.

Abstract: An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device may include a first part coupled to a second part by a fastener. The first part may include a through hole and several spring elements that define the first through hole. The second part may include a through hole and several extensions that define the through hole. The electronic device may include a fastener used to secure the first part with the second part. In this manner, the fastener passes through respective through holes of the first part and the second part. Further, the fastener can engage and deform the spring elements such that the spring elements extend into the through hole of the second part. As a result, the spring elements are displaced and the fastener engages not only the spring elements but also the extensions. The parts may include circuit boards or sheet metal, as non-limiting examples.

Abstract: An electronic device can include a housing at least partially defining an exterior surface and an internal volume of the electronic device, and an engagement feature affixed to the housing, the engagement feature including a shaft having a first diameter and a top portion having a second, larger diameter. A display component can be disposed in the internal volume and can define a retention feature including a first orifice having a diameter at least as large as the second diameter and a second orifice having a diameter less than the second diameter and at least as large as the first diameter, the first orifice intersecting the second orifice. The shaft can be disposed in the second orifice, and a securing component can be disposed between the display component and the housing.

Abstract: Electronic devices may be provided with displays. A display may have a light guide plate. Backlight for the display may be launched into the light guide plate from an array of light-emitting diodes. The light-emitting diodes may be mounted on a metal core printed circuit board having a dielectric layer and a metal layer. The metal core printed circuit board may have an elongated shape that extends along the surface of a metal structure. A weld may be formed along a seam between the metal layer of the metal core printed circuit board and the metal structure. The metal structure may be an electronic device housing, a display chassis member, a heat spreader, a heat pipe, or other structures in an electronic device.
