摘要: In certain aspects and embodiments, the present invention provides a radiolytic polymerization/gelation method for the synthesis of gels and their subsequent activated carbon derivatives. In certain exemplary embodiments, resorcinol-formaldehyde gels are produced from resorcinol and formaldehyde without additives, catalysts, buffers, initiators or other species. In certain embodiments, ionizing γ-type radiation from 60Co is used as a radiation source in the gel crosslinking process. Different compositions of resorcinol/formaldehyde and a wide range of irradiation doses were examined. Various techniques are used to characterize the outcome product, either the gels or their derived carbon gels or activated carbon.

摘要: To prevent accidental needle stick injuries, a syringe has a plunger configured to pull the syringe into the syringe barrel after clinical use. The syringe has an additional safety feature that restricts subsequent movement of the plunger. After the needle has been retracted in its entirety within the barrel of the syringe, movement of the plunger is restricted by a two-part locking mechanism, a notch on the plunger and a T-shaped slot on the barrel with a one-way catch section to prevent the needle tip from being pushed accidentally through the barrel wall.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a system and methods for determining and reserving an optimized amount of required cloud instance resources in order to provide quality streaming to viewers while also reducing overhead costs. For content providers, the choice of appropriate cloud location to transcode the live streams and appropriate number of video representations to serve the current viewership is a key in minimizing cost. However, this task cannot typically be done on the fly due to the properties of live streaming characterized by its dynamic, heterogeneity and wideness. The provided system helps predict the incoming load and the exact number of resources to allocate at each cloud site to help prevent the content provider from over-provisioning resources, leading to an extra cost, or under-provisioning resources, leading to viewers' dissatisfaction.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to articles used as an artificial reef and/or used as a part of an artificial reef, methods of making the articles, methods of using the articles, and methods of forming artificial reefs. The articles include a top, at least one support member, and optionally, a base. In some embodiments, the water permeability of the top of the article is greater (and in some embodiments, at least 10% greater) than the water permeability of the support, the water permeability of the optional base, or both. In preferred embodiments, the top, support(s), and optional base are formed of concrete.
