    摘要: A method for forming multi-directionally oriented plastic articles by shearing a thermoplastic material in a non-linear shear pattern while the material is at a temperature conducive to orientation and further processing the material by known plastic forming techniques to form an article in which the material remains oriented. More specifically, thermoplastic material is plasticized and accumulated in an amount at least sufficient to form the article, and the material is expressed under pressure from the accumulated body to and through an orifice. The material is non-linearly sheared prior to its issuance from the orifice to induce orientation stresses into the material, and, during shearing, the material is at a temperature which is conducive to orientation. The orientation stresses are frozen into the material when the material is formed to a desired configuration exteriorly of the orifice by known plastic forming techniques, such as blow molding, injection molding, compression molding, thermoforming and the like. During such forming, additional orientation stresses may be induced in the material and superimposed upon those stresses previously introduced thereinto.

    摘要: An improved safety closure for containers of harmful products includes an inverted cup-shaped body member formed of resilient plastic material and an integrally molded locking flap connected by an integral hinge to the top periphery of the body member. The locking flap folds into a conforming recess in the top surface of the body portion and, in its folded position, all edges of the locking flap are flush with the adjacent top surface of the body portion. Dispensing openings are provided in the top wall of the body portion and sealing means are provided on the bottom wall of the flap to close the dispensing openings in the folded position of the locking flap. Cooperating latching surfaces are provided on the flap and the body portion to retain the flap in its folded position. A portion of the annular wall of the body portion is recessed so as to permit manual inward depression of a segment of the outer wall of the body portion. Such depression effects a camming action on the locking flap to force at least an edge portion of the locking flap out of flush engagement with the body portion to permit the locking flap to be manually lifted to a fully open position.

    摘要: A method is disclosed for reinforcing hollow articles, such as bottles, blow molded from a heated thermoplastic material. A hollow parison is preformed with concave grooves in its exterior surface and corresponding ribs on its interior surface at locations in which the finished article is to be reinforced. The parison is then blow molded into the finished article. The blowing pressure and the temperature of the thermoplastic material collapse and fuse the concave grooves to form solid reinforcement ribs located inside the article while the exterior of the article has a rib-free surface defined by the blow mold.

    摘要: A method is disclosed for forming a plastic container by a blow molding operation. In the method, a tubular thermoplastic parison is blown to a preform within a first mold by a blow pipe inserted into one axial open end of the parison. Prior to removing the preform from the first mold, a secondary opening is formed in the wall of the preform, either by a spike-shaped piercing surface over which the parison is expanded or by a vent port through which blow air is exhausted to rupture an opening in the preform wall. The preform is then transferred to a second mold, which pinches shut the initial blowing opening of the preform. A second blow pin is inserted into the secondary opening to supply blow air under pressure to expand the preform to a container. The secondary opening may be formed into a finish opening on the container during the second blow molding operation, thus enabling the finish opening to be located at a position remote from the position on the container which corresponds to an axial extremity on the original tubular parison.

    摘要: Plastic containers having internal reinforcing ribs are formed by a molding operation including pre-blow and final-blow steps. The pre-blow step includes inflating a blowable plastic parison into contact with the cavity walls of a first blow mold to form a blown pre-form, the cavity walls of the first blow mold including a plurality of concave grooves to form a pattern of convex or proturburent ribs on the outer periphery of the pre-form. The final-blow step includes positioning the blown, ribbed pre-form within a second or final blow mold having a cavity defined by substantially smooth wall surfaces conforming to the exterior configuration of the desired container. Next, the pre-form is blown to stretch and expand against the cavity walls of the second mold, during which step the convex ribs on the exterior of the pre-form are flattened, forming concave portions intermediate convex reinforcing ribs on the internal wall surface of the container.

    摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus for thermally conditioning a blowable shape or parison, prior to blow molding, so that a subsequent blowing operation can be carried out under conditions conducive to bi-axial orientation in the final blown article.More specifically, the parison is formed by conventional techniques, such as free extrusion or injection molding. The parison is then enclosed in a heat exchange chamber, having interior walls spaced substantially uniformly from the exterior of the parison, and the parison is exposed to a fluid heat transfer agent, so that the parison temperature is adjusted to that temperature at which the parison, upon expansion, will become bi-axially oriented. The fluid agent can either heat or cool the parison to the desired temperature.

    摘要: An improved child resistant sifter fitment and closure for containers of harmful products includes an inverted cup-shaped body member formed of resilient plastic material and an integrally molded locking flap connected by an integral hinge to the periphery of the panel portion of the body member. The locking flap folds into a conforming recess in the top surface of the panel, and, in its folded position, all edges of the locking flap are flush with the adjacent top surfaces of the panel. Co-operating locking surfaces are provided on the flap and the body portion to retain the locking flap in its folded position, and to permit limited longitudinal movement of the locking flap relative to the panel. Dispensing openings are provided in the panel underlying the locking flap and an equal number of apertures are provided in the locking flap which are alignable with the dispensing openings by a longitudinal movement of the locking flap relative to the panel. Such longitudinal movement is produced by providing an upwardly opening recess in the portion of the side wall of the closure which underlies the hinged end of the locking flap, thus permitting the side wall portion to be moved inwardly by a compression action of the fingers to shift the locking flap longitudinally relative to the panel and align the dispensing openings.
