Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving at an ingress node in a segment routing network, an entropy prefix segment identifier, generating a label stack comprising the entropy prefix segment identifier and an entropy label beneath the entropy prefix segment identifier, and transmitting a packet comprising the label stack using the entropy prefix segment identifier as a transport label and an entropy label identifier. Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network receives in-situ operations administration and management (iOAM) data regarding a plurality of traffic flows in the network. The iOAM data comprises entropy values for the plurality of traffic flows. The device receives network topology information indicative of network paths available in the network. The device generates a machine learning-based entropy topology model for the network based on the received iOAM data and the received network topology information. The entropy topology model maps path selection predictions for the network paths with entropy values. The device uses the entropy topology model to cause a particular traffic flow to use a particular network path.

Data descriptive of the failure or degradation is generated. A previous service hop network node at which a service function or application was applied to traffic in the service path is determined. The data descriptive of the failure or degradation is communicated to the previous service hop network node.

Abstract: A system comprising a plurality of service nodes, a controller and a network device in communication with the controller. Each of the plurality of service nodes is configured to support one or more service functions to establish a service function chain that includes a plurality of service functions to be performed by routing traffic among the plurality of service nodes. The controller is configured to generate provisioning information for the service function chain. The provisioning information includes at least one condition upon which a service function reclassification or branching operation is to be performed by at least one service node. The network device is in communication with the controller, and is configured to distribute the provisioning information for the service function chain to the plurality of service nodes using a distributed routing protocol.

The content of the packet is analyzed to determine that the packet comprises a request for statistical values to be aggregated by the network device. The statistical values are aggregated at the network device. A report comprising the statistical values aggregated at the network device is generated. The report is sent to the originating network device.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to augmenting a Network Service Header (NSH) metadata of a data packet with a virtual routing and forwarding identifier (VRF-ID) and forgoing augmenting a virtual private network (VPN) label into a multiprotocol label switched (MPLS) metadata of the data packet. A provider edge router can use the VRF-ID to identify a next hop for the data packet as a service to be applied prior to forwarding the data packet to a VPN site.
