Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some wireless communications systems, a base station may transmit downlink control information (DCI) messages to a user equipment (UE). A DCI message may be transmitted using a particular DCI format based on the type of control information included in the DCI message. In some cases, different types of control information may be transmitted using the same DCI format. In such cases, one or more bit fields in a DCI format may be useful to a UE for one type of control information but may not be useful to a UE for another type of control information. As described herein, in order to limit the overhead associated with control information transmissions, a base station may support techniques for utilizing these bit fields in a DCI format to transmit information corresponding to the type of control information being transmitted.

Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may receive information that identifies a time offset associated with backhaul physical random access channel (PRACH) resources. The time offset may be different from a time offset that is identified based at least in part on a PRACH configuration index The wireless communication device may identify a set of backhaul PRACH resources based at least in part on the time offset. The wireless communication device may transmit a RACH transmission using the identified set of backhaul PRACH resources. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications for determining a minimum time gap between an received downlink message and transmission of an uplink message in response to the received downlink message. In some cases, a user equipment (UE) may receive a downlink message to perform a random access procedure. The UE may determine a minimum time gap based on an uplink transmission preparation time. The UE may transmit a random access preamble based on the minimum time gap. In some examples, the UE may receive a timing advance (TA) command and may determine a minimum time gap between receipt of the TA command and transmission of a time-adjusted uplink message.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Synchronization signals may be transmitted using a set of phase offsets over different component carriers or using a single component carrier for each antenna port. For example, a base station may identify a set of synchronization signals (e.g., a set of primary synchronization signals (PSSs)) to be transmitted over one or multiple component carriers. In some cases, each PSS may be associated with a different component carrier, and the base station may apply a different phase offset to each PSS when transmitting the set of PSSs on the component carriers. In some examples, the base station may transmit the PSSs on the component carriers using a different antenna port for each component carrier.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may use quasi co-located antenna ports for transmission of synchronization signal(s)/reference signal(s) and paging signals. For example, the base station may use a first antenna port configuration for transmission of the synchronization/reference signal(s) and a second antenna port configuration for transmission of the paging signal (e.g., paging indicator, paging message, etc.). The base station may transmit an indication of the quasi co-located antenna ports. A user equipment (UE) may receive the synchronization signal and, based on the antenna ports being quasi co-located, receive the paging signal. In some examples, the UE may determine which receive beam to use to receive the paging signal based on the antenna ports being quasi co-located. In some aspects, the UE may use a reference signal transmitted on antenna ports that are quasi co-located with the paging signal antenna ports.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may be configured to perform a random access channel (RACH) procedure with a base station. As part of the RACH procedure, the base station may transmit a contention resolution message to the UE. The UE may receive, from the base station, the contention resolution message. The contention resolution message may indicate at least a beam index corresponding to a beam, such as a transmit beam of the base station. The UE may determine whether the beam index is applicable to the UE. The UE may communicate with the base station through the beam corresponding to the beam index when the beam index is applicable to the UE. For example, the UE may send an acknowledgement message to the base station, and the base station and UE may switch to a beam corresponding to the beam index after communication of the acknowledgement message.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a beam-specific timing advance for Round-Trip Time (RTT) estimation. In an aspect, a first node receives a plurality of beams transmitted by a second node on a wireless channel, selects a first beam from the plurality of beams for transmitting a timing response, determines a timing statistic, a timing difference, and a timing advance for the first beam, wherein the timing difference comprises a difference between the timing statistic and an earliest time of arrival of the plurality of beams, and wherein the timing advance comprises a multiple of the timing difference, and transmits the timing response for the first beam to the second node on the wireless channel, wherein the first node transmits the timing response after a time delay from the timing statistic of the first beam, wherein the time delay comprises a difference between a predetermined time delay and the timing advance.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for adjusting timing advance command parameters for specific beam pair links (BPLs) in a wireless communications system. In some cases, a base station may determine that transmission timing at a UE may be misaligned. The may send a timing advance (TA) command for the BPL. A UE may utilize more than one BPL, and may switch communications from a first BPL to second BPL. The second BPL may have a different timing misalignment than the first BPL, and the TA command sent by the base station may be insufficient to correct the timing misalignment of the second BPL. The base station may adjust the TA command parameters (e.g., TA command size or TA command granularity) so that the timing misalignment of the second BPL may be corrected.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, base stations and user equipment (UEs) may use beamforming for transmitting random access channel (RACH) messages. A UE may transmit multiple RACH preamble messages (e.g., within a random access response (RAR) window) to initiate a RACH procedure. The UE may transmit the RACH preamble messages in transmission opportunities corresponding to reference signals received from the base station. In some cases, the UE may determine the number of RACH preamble messages to transmit within the RAR window based on an ability of the UE to simultaneously monitor for a RAR message in response to each of the transmitted messages. In other cases, the UE may transmit an indication of UE capabilities to the base station. The base station may determine a RACH resource configuration for the UE based on the capabilities and may indicate the configuration to the UE.
