Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network identifies a packet to be sent to a destination in the network via a path using segment routing. The device determines a list of one or more unique identifiers for one or more of the nodes along the path. The device includes a segment routing header with the packet, the segment routing header comprising a set of segment identifiers and the list of one or more unique identifiers. The device sends the packet with the segment routing header towards the destination in the network. One or more receiving nodes that receive the packet use the set of segment identifiers to route the packet towards the destination and the list of one or more unique identifiers to notify the device when the packet was not sent to the destination via the path.

Abstract: A method, network device, and computer readable medium are disclosed. In one embodiment of the method, a data packet is received at a node within a first segment routing enabled access network. The first access network is connected, via a first area edge node, to a first area of a subdivided segment routing enabled network, and a specified destination for the data packet is reachable via a second segment routing enabled access network connected to the subdivided network. The method embodiment further includes receiving from a centralized controller a remote segment identifier stack, where the remote segment identifier stack encodes a path extending from the first area edge node to the second access network. The embodiment of the method continues with encapsulating the data packet with a full segment identifier stack comprising the remote segment identifier stack, and forwarding the encapsulated data packet toward the first area edge node.

Abstract: Methods and network devices are disclosed for traversal, within a network configured for bit indexed forwarding, of a subnetwork having nodes not configured for bit indexed forwarding. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, from a first network node not configured for bit indexed forwarding, a data message comprising a local label and a message bit array. Bit values in the message bit array identify intended destination nodes for the message. The embodiment further includes modifying the message bit array to exclude as intended destination nodes for the message any nodes not represented by one or more relative bit positions associated with the local label and stored in an ingress filter data structure. In addition, the embodiment includes forwarding a copy of the data message to a second network node, which is configured for bit indexed forwarding, identified in an accessed entry of a bit indexed forwarding table.

Abstract: In some aspects, a method of the technology can include steps for sending a packet along a service function chain (SFC) to an egress node, the SFC comprising a plurality of service function forwarders (SFFs), wherein each SFF is associated with at least one service function (SF), and receiving the packet at a first SFF in the SFC, wherein the first SFF is associated with a first SF. In some aspects, the first SFF can also be configured to perform operations including: reading an option flag of the packet, and determining whether to forward the packet to the first based on the option flag. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

Abstract: An example method includes establishing a communication session between a first participant and a second participant, programming, via a control plane, a stream classifier which is to process packets associated with the communication session with classification logic. The method includes receiving a first packet at the stream classifier and, when the communication session requires recording, applying the classification logic at the stream classifier to route the first packet into a chosen service function path that includes a recording service function which reports media quality data to the control plane. Based on the media quality data, the classification logic is updated to cause a migration of the communication session to a new chosen service function path.

Abstract: Presented herein are service-function chaining techniques that enable data plane signaling of a packet as a candidate for capture at various network nodes along a service function path of a service function chain. That is, a capture signal is embedded within the respective packet that carries a user traffic. The signaling occurs in-band, via the data plane, such that classification of the packet for capture beneficially occurs, at the ingress node of the network, once to which subsequent network nodes along a service function path are signaled to capture or further inspect the packet for capture. Service function chaining treats service functions as resources with associated attributes available for scheduled consumption to which selective traffic are steered according to a policy construct to the requisite network-service resources.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for orchestrating data center resources and user access to data. In some examples, a system can determine, at a first time, that a user will need, at a second time, access to data stored at a first location, from a second location. The system can identify a node which is capable of storing the data and accessible by a device from the second location. The system can also determine a first service parameter associated with a network connection between the device and the first location and a second service parameter associated with a network connection between the device and the node. When the second service parameter has a higher quality than the first service parameter, the system can migrate the data from the first location to the node so the device has access to the data from the second location through the node.

Abstract: Aspects of the embodiments are directed to receiving an address resolution protocol (ARP) request message from a requesting virtual machine, the ARP request message comprising a request for a destination address for a destination virtual machine, wherein the destination address comprises one or both of a destination hardware address or a destination media access control address; augmenting the ARP request message with a network service header (NSH), the NSH identifying an ARP service function; and forwarding the augmented ARP request to the ARP service function.
