Low-velocity electron excited phosphor of the mixture-type is disclosed which is capable of being used for the patterning of phosphor layers by photolithography. The phosphor comprises a phosphor material in the form of particles and a conductive material in the form of fine particles securely deposited thereon by means of an organic binder. Also, a process for preparing such phosphor is disclosed.

A water-soluble, positive-working photoresist composition is disclosed which comprises water-soluble aromatic diazonium salt, water-soluble phenolic compound, and water-soluble polymeric compound. When the film of this composition is irradiated with a pattern of actinic ray and then brought into contact with an alkaline gas or solution, the coating of unexposed areas hardens to become water-insoluble. Preferably, when the film is brought into contact with a suspension of powder or dry powder after being hardened, a positive pattern of powder is obtained by the development with water.

There are disclosed a composition for making a picture tube fluorescent screen characterized by essentially consisting of a light-sensitive resin at least having recurring units (1) and (2) represented by the formulas: ##STR1## wherein R and X.sup.- have the same meanings as defined in the specification, and CaS-based phosphor particles which are dispersed in an aqueous medium, and a method of making a picture tube fluorescent screen using the same. According to this invention, it is possible to make a picture tube exhibiting an excellent light emitting efficiency and a contrast by a simple process.

Disclosed is a filter-coated phosphor having phosphor particles coated with filter particles formed of pigments of the same color as that of light emitted from the phosphor, the phosphor particles coated with the filter particles being additionally coated with a borate compound. According to this filter-coated phosphor, the filter particles never exfoliate from the surfaces of the phosphor particles in a slurry, satisfactory dispersibility is obtained in the slurry, and the slurry pH is stable. A phosphor screen of a color picture tube obtained with use of the filter-coated phosphor exhibits highly outstanding contrast and luminous efficiency.
