摘要： A cartridge engaging assembly for a cartridge handing system is disclosed. The assembly may include a cartridge engaging device positioned within each of the cartridge storage locations in a cartridge storage array. An actuator device may be included which is adapted to engage the cartridge engaging device in order to push a cartridge out of a storage location during a push operating mode or pull a cartridge into a storage location during a pull operating mode. An actuator drive assembly may be operably connected to the actuator device in order to linearly translate the actuator to device in a lateral direction. A linear translation assembly may be provided in order to linearly translate the read/write drive, actuator drive assembly, and actuator device among the storage locations in the cartridge storage array. A method for transporting a cartridge between a storage location and a read/write drive utilizing the cartridge engaging assembly is also disclosed.

摘要： A library apparatus is capable of enhancing the dimensional accuracy of locker frame structures to allow an accessor to surely carry out the insertion/extraction of a cartridge into/from a storage unit or a deck. Each of the locker frame structures is made up of a top board, a base and sheet metal columns vertically standing between corner portions of the top board and the base. Each of the sheet metal columns is fixedly welded to the top board and the base from the inside of the locker. The library apparatus is applicable to a large-capacity external storage system storing a large number of cartridges such as magnetic tape cartridges and optical disk cartridges.

摘要： A cartridge transferring robot for use in a library apparatus which is capable of improving the accuracy of the cartridge inserting/extracting angle of a hand mechanism and further of ensuring the positional accuracy of the tip portion of the hand mechanism sufficient for direct insertion and extraction of a cartridge into/from a drive unit. In the present invention, for these purposes, a tilt mechanism for adjusting the angle of the cartridge inserting/extracting direction with respect to a horizontal plane is composed of a tilt base for supporting a picker section so that the picker section is swingable around a supporting shaft located on a picker section front surface side facing a place for insertion or extraction of the cartridge, and a swinging drive mechanism disposed on the rear side of the picker section for making the picker section swing around the supporting shaft with respect to the tilt base. Further, this invention is for transferring cartridges among a storage unit, a cartridge entry/exit station and a drive unit within a library apparatus storing a large number of cartridges such as magnetic tape cartridges and optical disk cartridges.
