Abstract:
A degradation assembly may comprise at least one sensor mounted on a pick; the pick comprising a first conductor in communication with the sensor. The assembly may also comprise a receiving element including a bore comprising a second conductor. The first and second conductors may combine to create a connection as the pick is inserted into the bore of the receiving element.
Abstract:
A cutting tool assembly including a bit holder having a forward portion, a rearward portion, and a generally planar mounting surface between the forward and rearward portions. The forward portion defines a front aperture having an axis inclined relative to the mounting surface, and the rearward portion defines a rear aperture open to the front aperture. A cutting bit is mounted in the front aperture and includes a rearward end accessible through the rear aperture of the bit holder rearward portion.
Abstract:
Tips for pick tools and pick tools comprising same are provided. The tip comprises an impact structure formed joined at a non-planar boundary surface of a substrate. The boundary surface includes a depression. The impact structure comprises super-hard material and has a working end including an apex opposite the depression. The boundary surface of the substrate comprises a ridge at the periphery of the depression and a generally tapered circumferential region depending away from the ridge towards a side of the tip, a lowest point of the depression being directly opposite the apex.
Abstract:
A profile of a cutting tip includes a convex portion extending from a cutting end to an inflection point located at an axial and radial distance from the cutting end. A concave portion extends from the inflection point to a point at a greater radial and axial distance from the cutting end. The profiles of the generally concave portion and the generally convex portion have a first linear portion defined by a portion of a first line extending from a first point at a first radial position to a second point at a second radial position and axially spaced from the first point. A second linear portion is defined by a portion of a second line extending from a third point to a fourth point at the second radial position and at an axial distance from the second point corresponding to about half a length of the first line.
Abstract:
A quick change type bit/bit holder includes several different structures for holding the item in a bit block without the necessity of a fastener. The bit portion of the bit/bit holder combination includes a ductile steel insert with a polycrystalline diamond coated tungsten carbide bit positioned therein. The ductility of the steel insert acts as a shock absorber to allow the bit to successfully remove concrete as well as asphalt in a road milling machine.
Abstract:
A mounting for a replaceable tool on a ground-engaging machine, the mounting having a tool holder having an aperture extending into a body portion of the tool holder for receiving a projecting mounting portion of the tool, the tool holder having an inter-engagement structure for mechanically engaging with a base having a complementary structure, the base being adapted to be fixed to the machine, and the mounting further having retaining means for cooperating with the holder and the tool when installed to retain the holder on the base.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a bit holder having an insertion projection and having a bore-shaped bit receptacle that has a longitudinal center axis, a convexly curved support surface being provided on a base part. A bit holder of this kind can be implemented in compact and stable fashion in particular by the fact that the longitudinal center axis of the bit receptacle intersects the support surface.
Abstract:
A chisel holder comprises a body zone (12) having a chisel receiving opening (18) that is open at least in the direction of a chisel insertion end (14) of the body zone (12), and also comprises a fastening shaft (26) which extends from a supporting end (20) of the body zone (12) and has a longitudinal shaft axis. A fastening member-affecting zone is provided on a first side of the fastening shaft (26), and a supporting zone (78) that has supporting surface regions (88, 90) which are inclined relative to each other and adjoin each other in a transition zone (92) extending in the direction of the longitudinal shaft axis is provided on a second side of the fastening shaft (26), said second side lying opposite the first side relative to the longitudinal shaft axis. Said chisel holder is characterized in that the transition zone (92) is designed like a cavity, or/and at least some sections of at least one supporting surface region (88, 90) project radially outward from a basic outer peripheral surface (94) of the fastening shaft (26) in relation to the longitudinal shaft axis.
Abstract:
A cutting bit retention assembly (399) that includes a cutting bit holder (500), which receives a cutting bit (58) and has shank (504) that extends into a bore (418) in a support (400). The shank section (504) of the cutting bit holder (500) presents a surface (530) defined by a notch (528) that selectively cooperates with a retention pin (670). A transverse bore (430) in the support (400) carries the retention pin (670). The retention pin (670) is selectively movable to any one of several positions. One position is a non-retaining position wherein the retention pin (670) does not engage the notch surface (530). Another position is a retaining position in which the retention pin (670) engages the notch surface (530) to urge the cutting bit holder into the cutting bit holder bore (418). Still another position is an ejecting position in which the retention pin (670) engages the notch surface (530) to urge the cutting bit holder (500) out of the cutting bit holder bore (418).
Abstract:
A degradation assembly comprises a rotary portion and a stationary portion. The rotary portion includes a cemented metal bolster bonded to a tip. The tip comprises a symmetric, substantially conically shaped tip formed of diamond and a cemented metal carbide substrate. The stationary portion comprises a holder configured to be coupled to a block mounted to a driving mechanism. A compressible element is disposed intermediate, or between, and in mechanical contact with both the rotary portion and the stationary portion.
