Abstract: Channel state information (CSI) request procedures are disclosed for use in long term evolution (LTE)/LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks with unlicensed spectrum. Instead of relying on periodic reference signals which may not be transmitted because of failed clear channel assessment (CCA) operations, an aperiodic reference signal is defined that provides an on-demand reference signal and CSI request for user equipment (UE). The serving base station transmits an identifier, which signals that the aperiodic reference signal will be transmitted, either in the same subframe or a future subframe, and then transmits the aperiodic reference signal in the designated subframe. UEs served by the base station will receive the identifier, identify a CSI request, either implicitly through the identifier signal received from the base station or explicitly through a UE-specific CSI request, and then generate a CSI report based on the aperiodic reference signal for transmission back to the serving base station.

Abstract: Wireless communications systems and methods related to performing random backoff over multiple spatial dimensions in spatial listen-before-talk (LBT) procedures are provided. A first wireless communication device determines a first backoff counter for contending for a transmission opportunity (TXOP) in a communication medium over a first spatial subspace. The first wireless communication device detects a transmission in the TXOP within the first spatial subspace. The first wireless communication device determines a second backoff counter for contending for the TXOP over a second spatial subspace that is different from the first spatial subspace based on the detecting. The second spatial subspace is part of the first spatial subspace and the detected transmission is in a different spatial subspace than the second spatial subspace.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An access point of a secondary cluster may identify a first set of access points of a primary cluster scheduled to perform downlink transmissions over a shared radio frequency spectrum band during a transmission opportunity. The access point may identify a second set of access points and may select a first set of blacklisted stations associated with the secondary cluster for the transmission opportunity. In some cases, the selecting is based on the first set of access points and the second set of access points. The access point may then selectively perform at least one downlink transmission to a second set of stations associated with the secondary cluster during the transmission opportunity. In some examples, the second set of stations is based on the first set of blacklisted stations.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A first method includes receiving downlink control information for a first UE based at least in part on a group identifier associated with a NOMA group including the first UE and at least a second UE; and receiving a set of NOMA downlink transmissions at the first UE based at least in part on the downlink control information for the first UE. A second method includes receiving downlink control information for a first UE, the downlink control information for the first UE including an indication of at least a second UE; receiving downlink control information for the second UE based at least in part on the indication of at least the second UE; and receiving a set of NOMA downlink transmissions at the first UE based at least in part on the downlink control information for the first UE and the downlink control information for the second UE.

Abstract: Measurement and demodulation may be impacted by varying transmit power due to varying numbers of carriers in a shared radio frequency (RF) spectrum band. Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. One method includes monitoring at least one carrier of a RF spectrum band for a first reference signal transmitted in a number of listen-before-talk (LBT) radio frames from a plurality of LBT radio frames associated with the plurality of carriers, where the plurality of LBT radio frames are received at the user equipment (UE) in different sets of at least one carrier of the RF spectrum band at different times, and where the first reference signal is associated with a first fixed transmit power; receiving a plurality of instances of the first reference signal; measuring the plurality of instances; and determining a cell measurement based at least in part on the measurements of the plurality of instances.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may identify a transmission opportunity duration and an allocation for downlink and uplink transmissions, then broadcast a channel reservation request transmission. The broadcast may be sent using unlicensed radio frequency spectrum over a channel that includes multiple-sub-bands. The channel reservation transmission may include the identified duration, allocation, and a channel state information (CSI) request. User equipments (UEs) may receive the broadcast, and respond with a channel reservation response transmission that includes a CSI report, a transmit identity, or an interference threshold indicator. In some cases, some or all of the UEs may transmit a sounding reference signal (SRS) in response to an SRS request that is broadcast by the base station. The base station may schedule uplink and/or downlink transmissions to at least a subset of the multiple UEs based on the channel reservation response and/or SRS.
