Abstract: The present disclosure is generally related to a magnetic recording device comprising a magnetic recording head. The magnetic recording head comprises a main pole, a shield, and a spintronic device disposed between the main pole and the shield. The spintronic device comprises two field generation layers (FGLs), two spin polarization layers (SPLs), and two spin kill layers. The spintronic device further comprises one or more optional thin negative beta material layers, such as layers comprising FeCr, disposed in contact with at least one of the spin kill layers. When electric current is applied, the spin kill layers and optional negative beta material layers eliminate or reduce any spin torque between the FGLs and the SPLs.

Abstract: The present disclosure is generally related to a magnetic recording device comprising a magnetic recording head having a current flow in a cross-track direction around a main pole. The magnetic recording device comprises a main pole disposed between a trailing shield, a leading shield, and side shields. A trailing gap is disposed between the main pole and the trailing shield. A hot seed layer is disposed between the trailing gap and the trailing shield. A first insulation layer is disposed between the hot seed layer and the trailing shield, where the first insulation layer contacts the side shields. A second insulation layer is disposed between the main pole and leading shield, where the second insulation layer contacts the side shields. The first and second insulation layers direct the current through the side shields and across the main pole in a cross-track direction.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to a write head for a magnetic recording device. The write head includes a spin torque oscillator (STO) that has a seed layer formed on a write pole, a spin polarization layer (SPL) formed on the seed layer, a first spacer layer formed on the SPL, a field generation layer (FGL) formed on the first spacer layer, a second spacer layer formed on the FGL, and a notch formed on the second spacer layer. The FGL and the notch are antiferromagnetically coupled through the second spacer layer and thus increases the FGL angle and improves the write capabilities of the write head.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatuses and methods for writing to a magnetic medium, and data storage devices comprising such apparatuses and methods. An apparatus comprises a main pole, a trailing shield, a write-field-enhancing structure, a write coil, a write current control circuit configured to supply a write current to the write coil to record a bit to a magnetic medium, and a driving current control circuit configured to supply a driving current to the write-field-enhancing structure, wherein the driving current comprises a driving pulse. A method of writing to a magnetic medium comprises supplying a write current to a write coil of a magnetic write head, and supplying a driving current to a free layer disposed in a write gap between a main pole and a trailing shield of the magnetic write head, wherein the driving current comprises an AC component.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a tape drive including a tape head. The tape head comprises at least one same gap verify (SGV) module comprising a plurality of write transducer and read transducer pairs disposed on a substrate. Each pair comprises a null shield disposed between the write transducer and the read transducer. One or more of a position between the write transducer and the read transducer of each pair, a width, a height, a thickness, and a permeability of the null shield is adjusted to create a null region, and the read transducer is disposed in the null region. The SGV module is configured to write data to a tape using the write transducer of each pair and read verify the data written on the tape using the read transducer of each pair such that the write transducer and read transducer of each pair are concurrently operable.

The second layer structure includes a Cr layer disposed on the FeCr layer, and a Cu layer disposed on the Cr layer and between the Cr layer and the STL.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to data storage devices, and more specifically, to a magnetic media drive employing a magnetic recording head. A magnetic recording head comprises a main pole disposed between a leading shield and a trailing shield. A spin torque oscillator is disposed between the main pole and the trailing shield at a media facing surface. A hot seed bilayer is disposed between the spin torque oscillator and the trailing shield, where the hot seed bilayer is conformal with the spin torque oscillator. The hot seed bilayer comprises a first layer comprised of a high magnetic moment material disposed at the media facing surface and a second layer comprised of a low magnetic material recessed from the media facing surface.
