    摘要: A magnetic write apparatus has a media-facing surface (MFS), a pole having leading and trailing surfaces, a trailing shield having a pole-facing surface, a write gap and coil(s). The pole's trailing surface has a portion adjoining the MFS and oriented at a nonzero, acute bevel angle from a direction perpendicular to the MFS. The pole-facing surface includes a first portion adjoining the MFS and oriented at a first angle substantially the same as the bevel angle, a second portion oriented at a second angle greater than the first trailing shield angle, and a third portion oriented at a third angle substantially the same as the first angle. The write gap has first, second and third thicknesses adjacent to the first, second and third portions of the pole-facing surface, respectively. The first thickness is constant. The second thickness varies. The third thickness is constant and greater than the first thickness.

The coil(s) are configured to energize the main pole. The main pole includes a leading surface, a trailing surface, and a plurality of sides between the leading surface and the trailing surface. At least one of the plurality of sides form a sidewall angle with a down track direction. The sidewall angle is less than thirteen degrees and is at least zero degrees. In some aspects, the sidewall angle is less than a maximum skew angle for the data storage system.

A trench having a shape and location corresponding to a main pole is formed in the intermediate layer. The main pole is provided. At least a portion of the main pole is in the trench. Providing the main pole further includes vacuum depositing a first main pole material layer. The first main pole material layer is thin enough to preclude filling of the trench. The first main pole material layer is then ion beam etched. A second main pole layer is vacuum deposited on the first main pole layer. The second main pole material layer is also thin enough to preclude filling of the trench. An additional main pole layer is also deposited.

The pole has a pole tip region including a top wider than a bottom, and sides. The sides are at a sidewall angle from a down track direction. The write gap is adjacent to the pole top and between the top shield and the pole top. The side shield(s) are magnetically connected with the top shield and extend past the bottom of the pole. The side gap is between the side shield(s) and the pole. The side shield(s) have pole-facing surface(s) not more than a side shield angle from the down track direction. The side shield angle is less than the sidewall angle. The side gap width increases from the top near the gap to the bottom near the bottom of the pole.
