Abstract:
One embodiment is directed to a method comprising sensing, by an apparatus, a shared channel; determining whether the shared channel is free; determining whether a synchronization signal has been received; and based on that the shared channel is determined free and the synchronization signal is determined received, beginning to access the shared channel.
Abstract:
A wireless network having one or more access points and one or more stations may improve spectrum efficiency for uplink transmissions by assigning a plurality of stations to a channel (or subchannel), each with a different priority. A channel may be assigned to a first station with the first priority, a second station with a second priority, and so on (e.g., instead of assigning the channel to just one station). An access point may transmit information indicative of the channel assignments, priorities, and other information used by stations to perform uplink transmissions. If a station with the highest priority receives the data from the access point, it may start transmission. A station with a lower priority may listen, during a listening period, to the same channel and determine whether the higher priority station started transmission during the listening period. If the higher priority station did not start transmission during the listening period, the lower priority station may transmit uplink data to the access point.
Abstract:
Uplink data indication transmission(s) are received over a subband and over OFDM symbol(s) from STA(s) in a wireless communication system. The received uplink data indication transmission(s) are decoded to determine a unique codeword for each of the STA(s). From the determined unique codewords and using a mapping between station IDs and codewords in a codebook, a unique station ID is determined for each of the STA(s). For STA(s) determined to have sent the uplink data indication, other operations are performed to prepare for subsequent reception of uplink data from the STA(s) determined to have sent the uplink data indication.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatus and program products are disclosed for allowing wireless devices in two wireless access networks whose coverage areas overlap to communicate with their respective access nodes. Groups may be assigned to wireless devices in the access networks and the groups may be used by wireless devices in the access networks to determine whether to access a communication medium or not. Received powers may also be used by wireless devices in the access networks to determine whether or not to access a communication medium. A wireless device in a first access network can determine whether to access (e.g., compete for access to) the communication medium by comparing a measured power of transmission from a second access node with an indication of a minimum received power above which wireless devices in a second access network formed by a second access node are allowed to contend for access to the communication medium.

Abstract:
An access point in a random access wireless network is presented, which performs medium access control for transmissions from a plurality of stations to the access point using a carrier sense multiple access protocol. The CSMA protocol is based on the access point having a variable sensitivity level to detecting other transmissions on a wireless channel in order to avoid data collisions. In a dense network environment, the sensitivity level can be reduced to avoid detecting transmissions to other access points, and thus improve area efficiency.
Abstract:
One embodiment is directed to a method comprising selecting a group of packets for at least one access category, determining a set of contention parameters based on the at least one access category, transmitting the selected group of packets by using the determined set of contention parameters, obtaining information about collision of the transmitted group of packets, and determining an updated set of contention parameters based on the obtained collision information and a predefined condition.
Abstract:
This document discloses a solution for carrying out narrowband communications in a wireless network. According to an aspect, a method comprises in an apparatus: detecting at least one content notification message indicating contents of each of a plurality of messages frequency-multiplexed with a discovery message to parallel sub-channels of a channel in a bi-directional wireless network; selecting autonomously a sub-channel on the basis of the detected content notification message; and acquiring a message through the selected sub-channel.
Abstract:
Various implementations described herein are directed to a method for terminating a transmission opportunity. The method may transmit an indication of a channel reservation for a transmission opportunity comprising a busy tone slot and a plurality of resource elements. The method may determine whether busy tone signals were received during the busy tone slot. If no busy tone signals were received during the busy tone slot, the method may terminate the transmission opportunity prior to a scheduled end time of the channel reservation.
Abstract:
This document discloses a solution for determining a channel assessment threshold in an apparatus. A method according to this solution includes: determining, by the apparatus, a channel assessment threshold based on a factor representative of a signal-to-interference ratio at another apparatus with which said apparatus has established a link; determining, by the apparatus on the basis of the channel assessment threshold, whether or not a channel is free for transmission over the link; and upon determining the channel to be free, causing transmission of a frame.
