    摘要: A submarine (1) has an assembly (3) for deploying a life raft (5), the assembly (3) being located in a well (7) formed outside the submarine's pressure hull (11). The assembly includes a pressure vessel (4) for storing the life raft (5) in a pressurized state. To deploy underwater, a lid (71) covering an opening to the well (7) is released to permit the assembly (3), which is buoyant, to ascend towards the water surface. A sensor (43) determines proximity to the water surface, whereby a pneumatic ram (42) in the pressure vessel is activated to eject the life raft (5) from the pressure vessel (4).

    摘要: An optimisation apparatus (100) for optimising a spread spectrum cellular communication system comprises a measurement report processor (101) which collects measurement reports from remote units of the spread spectrum cellular communication system. The measurement report processor (101) is connected to a path loss processor (103) which determines relative path loss data for the remote units. The relative path loss data may comprise path loss data relative to a constant which is common for a plurality of neighbour cells of a remote unit. The path loss processor (103) is coupled to a model processor (105) which establishes a model of the cellular communication system in response to the relative path loss data. The model processor (105) is coupled to a performance data processor (109) which generates estimated performance data for the cellular communication system from the model. Estimated performance data may be generated for different parameter values and the optimum parameter value may be selected and applied to the cellular communication system.

Downstream users can select a desired service from a given tier, and the tier may automatically select a service that maximizes the profit for the reseller.

    摘要: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for setting pilot signal transit powers in a CDMA system. Subscriber units (211,213,215) perform pilot signal measurement measurements and transmits these to a receiver (603). A processor (605) determines a ranking factor for each cell (217, 219,221) at least partly dependent on the pilot signal measurement and a cell overlap condition of the subscriber unit (211, 213, 215) during measurements. The processor (605) ranks the cells (217,219,221) according to the ranking factor, and sets the pilot signal transmit power of at least one cell in response to the ranking of the cells by adjusting a power amplifier (609). The cell overlap condition is determined as the handover state of the subscriber unit (211,213,215) or as the number of cells, which can be received by the subscriber unit (211,213,215) during the measurement The invention is applicable to 3rd generation cellular communication systems.
