A method for identifying a physical link interconnecting a network device and a peer network device, where the network device and the peer network device each have an interface and a corresponding indicating light, may include: sending a packet from the interface of the network device to the interface of the peer network device over the physical link; causing the indicating light corresponding to the interface of the peer network device to blink at a predetermined cadence for a predetermined period of time upon receipt of the packet to enable recognition of the peer network device.
