A cell wall lytic enzyme which possesses an ability to lyse the cell wall of Chlorella, yeasts, etc. is produced by aerobically culturing a microorganism belonging to Genus Micropolyspora which produces a cell wall lytic enzyme in a medium containing assimilable carbon sources, assimilable nitrogen sources and essential inorganic salts and organic nutrients until a substantial amount of the enzyme is accumulated in said medium and isolating said enzyme from the medium, and, if desired, subjecting the thus obtained crude enzyme to the purification step of salting out or dialysis to obtain a purified enzyme solution and further subjecting the enzyme solution to freezedrying to obtain a powder preparation of said enzyme.
