The image display apparatus includes a memory including instructions; and a processor configured to execute the instructions to: in response to a request for executing a designated application being received, identify a type of error occurred in the image display apparatus, and based on the type of error identified by the processor, determine whether to: execute the designated application and recover from the error after the designated application is executed by the processor, or recover from the error and execute the designated application after recovering from the error.
