A film projection system comprising a film guiding path, a light source, a projection screen and a rotatable optical system. The optical system comprises a support carrying equidistant identical object lenses whose nodal points traverse a path spaced from the film guiding path a distance substantially equal to the focal distance of the object lenses. The beam or beams emanating from the object lenses are projected and brought into register, respectively, on the projection screen by means of a projection lens. Each object lens may have a given distortion for substantially eliminating any residual unintended motion of the projection of each individual point of the film on the screen.

A motion picture camera includes a film pull down mechanism and shutter in which film is moved from one frame to the next in a 360.degree. operating cycle made up of a pull down time and a dwell time. The film pull down mechanism is designed to pull the film down in a period less than the dwell time of the film so that film exposure is increased over that occurring when the pull down time and dwell times are equal. The shutter has an opaque sector less than 180.degree. and an open sector greater than 180.degree. responsive to operation of the pull down mechanism to eclipse the film from exposure during the pull down time. The film pull down mechanism further includes a means for varying the length of film pulled down so that film frames of different vertical dimensions can be properly exposed by the same motion picture camera.

A compact, easily installable light detector unit is provided to automatically correct malfunction in film feed in projection devices of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,312,576. Light is projected through the perforation apertures in the film and conducted to light sensing a element by means of a fiber optic pipe. The mechanism which corrects malfunctions in film feed is activated only when such correction is required.

The device includes a light source supplying several flashes on the passage of each frame of the film. A mirror provides several optical paths for the light rays to compensate for the movements of the film between flashes, and is actuated independently of the advance of the film and at a frequency several times higher than the rate of passage of the images. A detector of the relative momentary position between the compensating mirror and the position of the film activates a flash of the lamp for the positions in which the compensation is correct by way of an electrical gating circuit.
