Abstract: A rolling controller executes speed and tension control, and roll gap and plate thickness control when rolling speed is less than a boundary value, while executing roll gap and plate tension control, and speed and plate thickness control when the rolling speed is equal to or greater than the boundary value. If the rolling speed rises across the boundary value, the rolling controller sets the rolling speed to zero such that a speed correction amount in the speed and tension control before the transboundary is not reflected to a calculation executed in the speed control amount of the rolling speed after the transboundary.

Abstract: A stretch reducing rolling mill for rolling pipes has a plurality of roll stands arranged in series in a conveying direction of a pipe. A wall thickness measuring device determines a wall thickness progression of the pipe prior to rolling. A control unit controls respective rotational speeds of the roll stands. A pipe position measuring device is arranged in front of the roll stands and continuously measures a current longitudinal coordinate of the pipe. The measured values of the longitudinal coordinate of the pipe are transmitted to the control unit. The control unit controls the rotational speeds of the roll stands based on both the determined wall thickness progression and the transmitted measured values of the current longitudinal coordinate of the pipe, in order to compensate for wall thickness variations of the pipe. A stretch reducing rolling mill is designed to carry out the method.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a control method of hot mill coiler side guides based on spark recognition, where the side guides are adjusted according to the width of sparks from the friction between the hot rolled strip (20) and the side guides (11). An industrial camera (9) is provided obliquely above the side guides (11), and a detection system implements a real-time analysis on the images taken by the industrial camera and determines the magnitude of sparks generated on either side of the side guides according to the spark width. For each unilateral side guide, it is adjusted according to the spark width MS corresponding to that side guide (11). For said unilateral side guide (11), the deviation of the single-side spark width ΔMS is obtained according to ΔMS=MS−Maim. The position adjustment magnitude ΔWS of the unilateral side guide (11) can be obtained according to formula (I). And the pressure adjustment magnitude ΔPS of the unilateral side guide (11) can be obtained according to formula (II). This method allows the hot rolled strip (20) always in the relative center of the steel coil, reduces the wear of the side guides (11), avoids various defects of the steel coil, and makes the steel coil in good shape.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to monitor conditioning machines are disclosed herein. An example system includes a plurality of work rolls to process a continuous strip of material positioned between an entry and an exit of an apparatus. A sensor is positioned downstream from the exit of the apparatus. The sensor measures a first distance between an upper surface of the strip material and a predetermined reference. The sensor measures a second distance between the upper surface of the strip material and the predetermined reference. The first and second distances is measured at at least one of two different locations or two different instances in time as the strip material exits the apparatus. A controller compares the first distance and the second distance to detect material curvature or longbow in the strip material.
