摘要: In some embodiments, a self-monitoring intravenous catheter system is provided. An alarm controller is provided that receives signals representing a pH value, an oxygen saturation value, and a pressure value in proximity to the distal end of the catheter. By performing a fuzzy logic analysis of the values, the alarm controller is able to detect that the catheter is about to fail or has failed, and can cause alerts to be presented. In some embodiments, an intravenous catheter is provided that has a pH sensor and an oximeter disposed at a distal end of the catheter to obtain the pH value and oxygen saturation values analyzed by the alarm controller. Embodiments of the catheter and self-monitoring intravenous catheter system may be particularly useful in treating neonates, who are sensitive to catheter failure and are not capable of detecting the signs of failure themselves.

摘要: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to a garment system including at least one sensor and at least one actuator that operates responsive to sensing feedback from the at least one sensor to cause a flexible compression garment to selectively constrict or selectively dilate, thereby compressing or relieving compression against at least one body part of a subject. Such selective constriction or dilation can improve muscle functioning or joint functioning during use of motion-conducive equipment, such as an exercise bike or rowing machine.

摘要: A stroke detection device includes a cell phone having a sensor adapted to sense a characteristic of the user of the cell phone. An app executed by the cell phone passively monitors the characteristic to determine if the user has experienced a stroke. The app requests that the user take one or more tests using the cell phone if the presence of a stroke is possible. The tests include the user speaking a specific phrase into the cell phone that is compared to a previously recorded sound sample of the user; the user taking a picture of himself or herself with the cell phone that the app compares to a previous picture of the user; and the user attempting to hold his or her arm out straight while holding the cell phone wherein accelerometers in the phone measure the steadiness of his or her arm.
