    Abstract: Apparatus and methods for preventing overshoot for a high-to-low input current transient of a logarithmic transimpedance amplifier are disclosed. In certain embodiments, an amplifier system includes a logarithmic transimpedance amplifier having an input that receives an input current signal, and a current pulse injection circuit that injects a current pulse into the input of the logarithmic transimpedance amplifier in response to detecting a transition of the input current signal from a high current value to a low current value.

    Abstract: Techniques for providing amplifier overdrive protection. In an example, a circuit configured to determine the difference between the amplifier output voltage and the amplifier power supply voltage, so as to sense an overdrive condition. Responsive to the difference exceeding a threshold, the circuit is configured to limit the amplifier drive capability, which in turn limits the maximum amplifier output current. The circuit may restore the amplifier drive capability, responsive to cessation of the overdrive condition. In some such cases, the circuit may be configured with hysteresis, so as to provide stability when transitioning to and from the reduced drive state. Another example circuit operates in a similar fashion but is configured to determine the difference between the amplifier input voltage and a reference voltage, so as to sense an overdrive condition. In some such cases, the reference voltage may be equal to amplifier power supply voltage divided by amplifier gain.

    Abstract: There is provided a limiter circuit and a power amplifier circuit that are capable of effectively limiting output power of an amplifying transistor based on the amplitude of an input signal. A limiter circuit is connectable to an amplifying transistor that amplifies and outputs a radio frequency signal and controls a voltage to be applied to the amplifying transistor, based on the radio frequency signal. The limiter circuit includes an input signal detection transistor that detects power of the radio frequency signal and a voltage limiting transistor that limits the voltage to be applied to the amplifying transistor, based on current flowing to the input signal detection transistor.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods for amplifier input-overvoltage protection with low leakage current are provided herein. In certain embodiments, amplifier input circuitry for an amplifier includes a pair of input terminals, a pair of input transistors each having a control input (for instance, a transistor gate), a pair of protection transistors each connected between one of the input terminals and the control input of a corresponding one of the input transistors, and a bidirectional clamp connected between the control inputs of the input transistors. Implementing the amplifier input circuitry in this manner provides a number of advantages including, but not limited to, robust protection against input overvoltage and low input-leakage current.
