Abstract: Disclosed is a method for managing a torque to be supplied on a shaft of an electric motor including the following steps: creating and initializing a correction data table; acquiring a torque instruction; determining a torque command; measuring the current output from the converter and measuring the current output from the battery; calculating an electrical power on the basis of the two current measurements and of the voltage; determining, on the basis of a map, a corresponding torque on the basis of the electrical power at the motor and of the rotational speed of the motor; reading the information provided by the motor relating to the torque exerted on its shaft; calculating the difference between the information provided by the motor and the torque determined on the basis of the electrical power; and updating the correction data table.

Abstract: During rotation of a shaft of a downhole-type wellbore system, a first signal corresponding to an axial position of the rotating shaft is transmitted by a sensor. The shaft is axially levitated by a plurality of magnetic thrust bearings. A controller determines an amount of axial force to apply to the rotating shaft to maintain axial levitation of the rotating shaft based on the first signal. The controller transmits a second signal corresponding to the determined amount of axial force to the plurality of magnetic thrust bearings. The plurality of magnetic thrust bearings applies the amount of axial force on the rotating shaft to maintain the axial levitation of the rotating shaft based on the second signal.

Abstract: Power tools described herein include a tool output, a motor driving the tool output, a battery pack interface, a power switching network coupled between the battery pack interface and the motor, and a controller coupled to the power switching network to control operation of the motor. The controller is configured to operate the motor at a no-load speed at startup and detect a load state of the power tool. The load state indicates whether the power tool is in a loaded state or an unloaded state. The controller is also configured to incrementally ramp up a speed of the motor from the no-load speed to a selected speed when the power tool is in the loaded state and incrementally ramp down the speed of the motor from the selected speed to the no-load speed when the power tool is in the unloaded state.

Abstract: A system and method for shaping the trajectory of a motion command to reduce the effects of a load on performance of a motor dynamically modifies the motion profile in real time to limit the reference signals in the motion profile to feasible commands. A load observer determines an estimated disturbance acceleration. The estimated disturbance acceleration includes the dynamics of the controlled load and is used to modify a maximum and a minimum limit for the acceleration reference. The acceleration limits are, in turn, used to determine velocity limits. The motion profile and modified acceleration and velocity limits are provided to a state filter which determines a new motion profile for use by the motor drive to control operation of a motor and to control the load connected to the motor.
