    Abstract: In an optical system, a height from an optical axis of a paraxial marginal ray that passes through a lens surface closest to an object is smaller than a maximum height from the optical axis of the paraxial marginal ray that passes through a lens surface on an image side of an intersection between the optical axis and a paraxial chief ray. The optical system includes an optical element disposed on an object side or the image side of the intersection. The optical element has positive refractive power in a case where the optical element is disposed on the object side of the intersection, and has negative refractive power in a case where the optical element is disposed placed on the image side of the intersection. A predetermined condition is satisfied.

    Abstract: The imaging lens includes, in order from a position closest to an object side to an image side: a front lens group that has a positive refractive power and is immovable during focusing; a stop that is disposed subsequent to the front lens group; a first focus lens group that has a positive refractive power; a second focus lens group that has a negative refractive power; and a final lens group that has a positive refractive power, is disposed closest to the image side, and is immovable during focusing. During focusing from an infinite distance object to a short range object, the first focus lens group and the second focus lens group move to increase a mutual distance therebetween.

    Abstract: Provided is a variable magnification optical system comprising, in order from an object side along an optical axis, a first lens group G1 having positive refractive power, a second lens group G2 having negative refractive power, a third lens group G3 having positive refractive power, and a fourth lens group G4; upon zooming from a wide angle end state to a telephoto end state, a distance between the first lens group G1 and the second lens group G2 being varied, a distance between the second lens group G2 and the third lens group G3 being varied, and a distance between the third lens group and the fourth lens group being varied; the third lens group G3 comprising, in order from the object side along the optical axis, a 3a-th lens group G3a having positive refractive power, an aperture S, and a 3b-th lens group G3b having positive refractive power; a lens group having negative refractive power within the 3b-th lens group G3b being used as a vibration reduction lens group and moved so as to include a component in a direction orthogonal to the optical axis, whereby image plane correction is performed when image blurring occurs; and predetermined conditions being satisfied. Whereby, a small-size and high-performance variable magnification optical system, capable of realizing a small variation in aberration and attaining a sufficient brightness even in the telephoto state, an imaging apparatus, and a method for manufacturing the variable magnification optical system are provided.

    Abstract: Provided is an optical system including, in order from an object side to an image side, a front lens unit, an aperture stop, and a rear lens unit. The front lens unit consists of a positive lens and a diffractive optical element, which are arranged in order from the object side to the image side. The diffractive optical element consists of a plurality of lenses that are cemented to each other, and at least one of cemented surfaces of the plurality of lenses is a diffractive surface. An interval on an optical axis between the positive lens and the diffractive optical element is the largest among intervals on the optical axis between two lenses that are adjacent in the optical system.
