Abstract: A desulfurization system has an oxidation process unit, and a multi-stage, liquid-liquid extraction unit in series with the oxidation process unit. The multi-stage, liquid-liquid extraction unit spits a fuel input from the oxidation process unit into a desulfurized fuel that is output for use, and a by-product. A solvent/sulfur/hydrocarbon separation process unit receives the by-product from the multi-stage, liquid-liquid extraction unit.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure produce a method and system for deasphalting a hydrocarbon feed. The hydrocarbon feed and a first solvent is combined using a Taylor-Couette mixer to form a mixed stream. The mixed stream and a second solvent are introduced to an extractor to produce a first deasphalted oil stream and a pitch stream. The first deasphalted oil stream is introduced to a solvent recovery unit to recover the first solvent and the second solvent via a recovered solvent stream and to produce a second deasphalted oil stream.

Abstract: A method and a system for separating and recovering an entire liquid hydrocarbon sample using an accelerated solvent extractor is disclosed. In the method, a filter is inserted into a bottom portion of an extraction cell of the accelerated solvent extractor. An adsorbent is activated via heating in a furnace and then cooled. At least a portion of the adsorbent is then inserted into the extraction cell and a liquid hydrocarbon sample is introduced into the extraction cell on top of the adsorbent. The extraction cell comprising the sample is placed in a cell tray of the accelerated solvent extractor and the saturate, aromatics, and resins fractions of the sample are sequentially extracted using first, second and third solvents, respectively. The entire liquid hydrocarbon sample is extracted as a result of the method.

Abstract: A vehicular propulsion system, a vehicular fuel system and a method of producing fuel for an internal combustion engine. A separation unit that makes up a part of the fuel system includes one or more adsorbent-based reaction chambers to selectively receive and separate at least a portion of onboard fuel into octane-enhanced and cetane-enhanced components. Regeneration of an adsorbate takes place through interaction with a solvent, while subsequent separation allows the solvent to be reused. A controller may be used to determine a particular operational condition of the internal combustion engine such that the onboard fuel can be sent to one or more combustion chambers within the internal combustion engine without first passing through the separation unit, or instead to the separation unit in situations where the internal combustion engine may require an octane-rich or cetane-rich mixture.

Abstract: System and method for reducing mutagen levels contained within a volume of petroleum aromatic extracts. The petroleum aromatic extracts are mixed with at least one solvent. This produces a mixture. Once mixed, some of the petroleum aromatic extracts dissolve. Others settle in the mixture. The petroleum aromatic extracts that have settled on the mixture are removed from the mixture and are ready for use. The mixture is heated to evaporate the solvent from the mixture. The evaporated solvent can be recaptured and reused. The residuum of the mixture contains petroleum aromatic extracts that can be partially recovered using traditional hydroprocessing techniques.

Abstract: Treatment systems, agents and processes are described for processing polluted oil sludge into environmentally harmless and reusable resources. The oil sludge is first crushed, mixed with water, stirred, and stratified, then the overflow layer with the oil slick is transferred into oil recovery tank; the remaining mixture of solid and liquid is then subjected to centrifugal solid-liquid separation, the resulting free water is collected for reuse through osmosis, and the remaining solid phase material goes through a secondary oil content reduction treatment, adding water, degradable treatment agent, stirring, and after the system was standing stratified, the upper layer with the oil slick is overflowed and transferred to oil recovery tank; for the mixture from the centrifugation separation and reduction treatment processes, the resulting liquid phase is subjected to oil water separation, the oil phase is transferred into the oil recovery tank, the water phase enters into the wastewater recycling tank for recycle and reuse, the remaining solid phase is treated to become environmentally harmless materials; undergo centrifugal separation again, and the liquid phase is distilled to recover the plant based treatment agent, the remaining oil is transferred to the oil recovery tank, and the excess sludge is dried.
