Abstract:
An electrically conductive yarn or film and method of manufacturing thereof in which a SP1/nanoparticle complex bound to the yarn or film serves as a platform for adhesion of a metallic coating.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a system for manufacturing a fully impregnated thermoplastic prepreg includes a mechanism for moving a fabric or mat and a drying mechanism that removes residual moisture from at least one surface of the fabric or mat. The system also includes a resin application mechanism that applies a reactive resin to the fabric or mat and a press mechanism that presses the coated fabric or mat to ensure that the resin fully saturates the fabric or mat. The system further includes a curing oven through which the coated fabric or mat is moved to polymerize the resin and thereby form a thermoplastic polymer so that upon exiting the oven, the fabric or mat is fully impregnated with the thermoplastic polymer. During at least a portion of the process, humidity in the vicinity of the coated fabric or mat is maintained at substantially zero.
Abstract:
Wipes for preventing quaternary ammonium (“quat”) depletion suitable for commercial applications (e.g., industrial and consumer disinfectant wipes) are provided. The wipe includes at least one nonwoven layer, at least one pulp layer, and a cationic additive. The at least one nonwoven layer and the at least one pulp layer may be hydroentangled to form a hydroentangled nonwoven fabric having a first surface and a second surface. Additionally, the cationic additive may be disposed on at least one of the first surface or the second surface.
Abstract:
A composite carbon fiber having a carbon fiber to which an amine-functionalized polymer is electro-grafted onto a surface thereof is provided. Electro-grafting the amine-functionalized polymer onto the surface of the carbon fiber results in a composite carbon fiber in which the polymer is covalently bonded to the fiber, and in which a significant number of reactive amine groups are available for subsequent reactions, such as for reacting with a resin matrix in the production of a fiber reinforced composite. As a result, the composite carbon fibers may be particularly useful in producing fibers reinforced composites that exhibit improved interlaminar strength. Fiber reinforced composites are also provided.
Abstract:
A curable resin composition containing a blend of multifunctional benzoxazines, and composite materials derived therefrom. The benzoxazine blend contains the combination of (A) a difunctional benzoxazine component and (B) a multifunctional benzoxazine component with functionality of greater than 2. Cured matrix resins and cured composite materials containing such benzoxazine blend exhibit a significant retardation in the rate of organic solvent uptake as compared to the same cured matrix resins and composite materials without component (B).
Abstract:
Structures having a polymer composition covalently bonded to the surface of the structure, methods of attaching the polymer to the surface of the structure, methods of decreasing the amount of microorganisms formed on a structure, and the like, are disclosed.

Abstract:
A method includes coating a substrate to provide a flame resistant substrate. In an embodiment, the method includes exposing the substrate to a cationic solution to produce a cationic layer deposited on the substrate. The cationic solution comprises cationic materials. The cationic materials comprise a polymer, a colloidal particle, a nanoparticle, a nitrogen-rich molecule, or any combinations thereof. The method further includes exposing the cationic layer to an anionic solution to produce an anionic layer deposited on the cationic layer to produce a layer comprising the anionic layer and the cationic layer. The anionic solution comprises a layerable material.

Abstract:
A cationic polymer is disclosed, represented by: A) wherein “P1” and “P2” represent portions of the cationic polymer to which the first functional group shown in A is bonded, or B) wherein “P” represents the remainder of the cationic polymer to which the second functional group shown in B is bonded, or the cationic polymer may comprise one or more of the first functional groups as shown in A and/or one or more of the second functional groups as shown in B where X represents an anion, typically chlorine. The cationic polymers are useful as textile softeners and for enhancing substantivity and durability of active compounds co-deposited onto textiles with the cationic polymers. Also provided is a method for forming said cationic polymer, a textile treatment composition and a textile treated with said textile treatment composition.
