Abstract: Aspects include a robotic device for inspection of components of a belt conveyor comprising a mobile platform and a robotic arm having a first end coupled to the mobile platform and a second end, the robotic arm configured to guide the second end to contact at least one of the components of the belt conveyor. Further included is a method for inspecting components of a belt conveyor using a robotic device, including: obtaining temperature and/or noise data of at least one of the components of the belt conveyor; and, if the data are outside a range, then: driving a second end a robotic arm of the robotic device for contacting at least one of the components; and obtaining vibration data from at least one of the components.

Abstract: For a simple monitoring of a robotic system that is configured for robot-assisted actuation of a movement of a medical object in a hollow organ of a patient, the robotic system includes at least one drive system, a robot control unit, and an acoustic sensor. A method is provided and includes receiving, by the acoustic sensor, acoustic signals of the robotic system during the operation of the robotic system for moving the medical object. At least one signal pattern is recognized in the received acoustic signals. The at least one recognized signal pattern is evaluated with respect to an associated action flow of at least one component of the robotic system. The method includes checking whether the action flow is an intended action flow, and actuating an action if the action flow is unintended.

Abstract: Noise reduction in a robot system includes the use of a gesture library that pairs noise profiles with gestures that can be performed by the robot. A gesture to be performed by the robot is obtained, and the robot performs the gesture. The robot's performance of the gesture creates noise, and when a user speaks to the robot while the robot performs a gesture, incoming audio includes both user audio and robot noise. A noise profile associated with the gesture is retrieved from the gesture library and is applied to remove the robot noise from the incoming audio.

Abstract: An apparatus such as a robot capable of performing goal oriented tasks may include one or more touch sensors to receive touch perception feedback on the location of objects and structures within an environment. A fusion engine may be configured to combine touch perception data with other types of sensor data such as data received from an image or distance sensor. The apparatus may combine distance sensor data with touch sensor data using inference models such as Bayesian inference. The touch sensor may be mounted onto an adjustable arm of a robot. The apparatus may use the data it has received from both a touch sensor and distance sensor to build a map of its environment and perform goal oriented tasks such as cleaning or moving objects.

Abstract: A robot having a spherical casing, a weight driving mechanism, and a rotating mechanism is provided. The robot further includes a control circuit that controls the weight driving mechanism and the rotating mechanism is also provided. The control circuit is configured to, when responding to an input instruction received from a user, based on a predetermined processing that requires a predetermined amount of time or more to respond to an input instruction by a user input via an input device, cause the weight driving mechanism to be rotated to where a guide path of the weight driving mechanism is positioned to be orthogonal to an advancing direction by a set of driving wheels. The control circuit is further configured to cause the weight to be reciprocally move along the guide path that is positioned orthogonal to the advancing direction, during the predetermined processing.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and system for positioning a sound source by a robot. With a combination of delay estimation and power spectrum intensity, the approximate direction of the sound source is estimated according to the power spectrum intensities received by the sound source acquisition apparatuses and the spatial directions of the sound source acquisition apparatuses. As such, the approximate direction of the sound source may be accurately estimated. The power spectrum intensity comparison refers to calculating an average power spectrum intensity of the sound source acquisition apparatuses within a specific frequency interval, and the average power spectrum intensity is inversely proportion to the distance from the sound source to the sound source acquisition apparatuses.

Abstract: A robot includes a spherical housing, a frame disposed in the housing, and a display that displays at least a facial feature of the robot. The robot further includes a set of driving wheels that are in contact with an inner surface of the housing to rotate the housing, and a weight driving mechanism that causes a weight to move along a predetermined axis. Also, the robot includes a power supply that is externally charged and supplies electric power to the set of driving wheels and weight driving mechanism, and a control circuit that stops rotation of the set of driving wheels and moves the weight along the predetermined axis to correspondingly move the display vertically.
