摘要： A seating unit includes: a frame configured to rest on an underlying surface comprising a pair of opposed arms, a seat fixed relative to the arms, and a backrest fixed relative to the arms; a footrest; and a footrest mechanism attached to the footrest and the arms. The footrest mechanism comprises a plurality of pivotally interconnected links configured to move the footrest between a retracted position, in which the footrest is positioned beneath the seat and defines an angle of between about 20 and 40 degrees with the underlying surface, and an extended position, in which the footrest is positioned in front of the seat and is generally horizontally disposed and generally inverted from its disposition in the retracted position.

The seat includes a T-cushion positioned above a seat frame, the T-cushion having lateral wings that are positioned forward of the arms. The reclining and footrest mechanisms comprise a plurality of pivotally interconnected links configured to move the chair between an upright position, a TV position, and a fully reclined position. In moving between the upright, TV and fully reclined positions, a front portion of the seat experiences substantially no forward or rearward movement relative to the arms.

The reclining mechanism interconnects the frame, the seat, the backrest, and the at least one ottoman, and comprises a series of pivotally interconnected links and configured to move the seating unit between (a) an upright position, in which the backrest is generally upright and defines a first backrest angle relative to horizontal, the seat is generally horizontal, and the at least one ottoman is retracted below the seat, (b) a TV position, in which the backrest substantially maintains the first backrest angle, and the at least one ottoman is extended in front of the seat, and a fully reclined position, in the at least one ottoman remains extended on front of the seat, and the backrest defines a second backrest angle relative to horizontal that is shallower than the first backrest angle. The lift mechanism interconnects the base and the frame and is configured to move the seating unit between the upright position and a lift position, in which both the frame and the seat are raised and tilted forward from their respective positions in the upright position, and the backrest defines a third backrest angle relative to horizontal that is greater than the first backrest angle. The power unit is interconnected with the reclining mechanism and the lift mechanism and is configured to move the seating unit between the lift, upright, TV and fully reclined positions. A lowermost portion of the backrest moves substantially directly vertically when moving from the upright position to the lift position. In such a configuration, the arrangement of the backrest and/or seat can provide the occupant with a more secure sensation as the chair lifts; it does not produce a sensation of the occupant being “thrown” from the chair, as can be the case with other lift chairs.

The reclining mechanism is connected between the backrest, seat, and first footrest, the reclining mechanism comprising a series of pivotally interconnected links and configured to move the seating unit between: (a) an upright position, in which the backrest is disposed at a first generally upright backrest angle relative to the seat, the seat is disposed at a first generally horizontal seat angle, and the first footrest is retracted below a forward portion of the seat; and (b) a fully reclined position, in which the backrest is disposed at a second backrest angle relative to horizontal that is shallower than the first backrest angle, the first footrest is extended in front of the seat, and the seat has a second seat angle that is deeper relative to horizontal than the first seat angle. The reclining mechanism includes a footrest mechanism attached to the first footrest, the footrest mechanism configured to control relative movement of the first footrest relative to the seat. The linear actuator is attached to the reclining mechanism and the footrest linkage and configured to move the backrest, seat and first footrest between the upright and fully reclined positions. The linear actuator and the footrest linkage reside entirely below a front portion of the seat and in front of the cutaway portion of the arms.
