    Abstract: A method of operating a communications device for communicating data via a wireless communications network comprises detecting one or more of a plurality of beams of radio signals transmitted by the wireless communications network. The method comprises determining whether a received signal strength of the radio signals of each of the one or more beams exceeds a first evaluation threshold, identifying a sub-set of the set of detected beams of radio signals which can be used to receive data carried by the radio signals of the beam for which the received signal strength exceeds the first evaluation threshold, and entering a relaxed radio measurement state in which the communications device reduces an amount of attempted measurements of the plurality of beams of radio signals compared with a normal state according to one or more relaxed measurement state criteria.

    Abstract: A method for transmitting data by a communications device in a wireless communications network, the method comprising assigning one of a plurality of logical channel priorities to the data in accordance with a plurality of service types, the logical channel priorities providing at least an indication of high priority data and lower priority data, forming a transport block of the data for transmission at a medium access control protocol layer in accordance with the logical channel priorities, and passing the transport block from the medium access control protocol layer to a physical layer for transmission and providing an indication to the physical layer based on the logical channel priority of the data in the transport block.
