Abstract: Various electric balance vehicles are described. In some embodiments, the vehicle has first and second housings with platforms to support a user's feet. The first and second housings can be rotatable relative to each other. The vehicle can have first and second wheel assemblies. A support member can extend within tapered portions of the first and second housings. In some embodiments, one of the first and second housings can rotate relative to the support member and the other of the housings can be rotationally fixed relative to the support member. The vehicle can balance and provide locomotion to the user. The vehicle can be light, compact, and/or have a low center of gravity.

The scooter can also include an angled rear portion supporting a rear swivel caster wheel such that the pivot axis of the swivel wheel is inclined with respect to the top surface of the deck. Abstract: A caster board can include a front platform section connected by a torsion bar or other neck portion to a rear platform section. The caster board can be convertible between a first configuration in which the caster board has three wheels, and a second configuration in which the caster board has two wheels. In the first configuration, the rear platform section can be supported by two wheels laterally offset from a longitudinal axis of the caster board. In the second configuration, the rear platform section can be supported by one wheel aligned with a longitudinal axis of the caster board. The rear platform section can include at least three mounting locations configured to have caster assemblies installed therein.

The vehicle also includes a braking assembly configured to isolate the motor from the at least one driven wheel such that power is terminated from the motor to the at least one wheel in response to a user engaging a braking assembly of the vehicle. The vehicle can include a switch or position sensor that interacts with the braking assembly to initiate the isolation of the motor from the at least one driven wheel and the switch or position sensor preferably is inaccessible to the foot of the user.
