Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for using sounding reference signal (SRS) for positioning. In an aspect, a UE receives an SRS configuration, the SRS configuration defining one or more SRS resource sets, each SRS resource set comprising one or more SRS resources, and each SRS resource comprising one or more SRS ports, wherein at least one SRS port of at least one SRS resource of at least one SRS resource set defined in the SRS configuration is usable by the UE at least for positioning. The UE transmits a positioning SRS utilizing one or more positioning SRS ports, wherein the positioning SRS is transmitted in a positioning SRS pattern such that across N consecutive symbols, where N is greater than or equal to two, SRS resource elements (REs) to which the one or more positioning SRS ports are mapped are staggered in frequency and use each of the N consecutive symbols.

Abstract: Techniques for wireless communication at a communication device are described. The UE may determine a measurement gap occasion based on the measurement gap sequence configuration. The measurement gap occasion may include one or more of a first measurement gap occasion associated with a first measurement gap sequence, a second measurement gap occasion associated with a second measurement gap sequence, or a combination of the first measurement gap occasion and the second measurement gap occasion. The UE may perform a set of channel measurements during the determined measurement gap occasion.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) receives configurations for multiple downlink (DL) positioning reference signals (PRS), multiple uplink (UL) PRS, or a combination thereof. A single Medium Access Control-Control Element (MAC-CE) block from a serving base station is provided that activates or deactivates in the UE the transmissions of the multiple UL PRS; reception of the multiple DL PRS, or a combination thereof, and in response the UE activates or deactivates the transmission and/or reception of the multiple UL PRS and/or DL PRS. The MAC-CE block, for example, may identify multiple UL PRS resource sets, each of which includes at least one PRS resource, for activation or deactivation. The MAC-CE block may additionally or alternatively, identify multiple DL PRS resources, multiple DL PRS resource sets, or multiple DL PRS frequency layers for activation or deactivation.

Abstract: An entity in a wireless network is configured to increase transmission of a positioning reference signal (PRS) at each of a plurality of transmitters, where the increase in transmission of PRS at each of the plurality of transmitters is coordinated to avoid interference to or from non-PRS transmission in the wireless network. The increase in the transmission of PRS may be performed by a server, such as a location management function (LMF) or location management component (LMC), a base station, such as a gNB, ng-eNB, or eNB, or by a combination of the server and base station. The entity may determine the increase in transmission of the PRS in response to location requests for a plurality of user equipments (UEs), notification reports from a plurality of base stations, or requests for increased PRS from a plurality of UEs.

Abstract: A wireless network including user equipment (UE) and base stations is configured to perform position determination with low latency and synchronized to a common time within a wireless network. The UE and base stations are configured to perform positioning measurements at a specific time point or within a window around the time point in a measurement period. The time point may be relative to a timing event within the wireless network, such as the beginning or end of a positioning reference signal window or a specific message in a layer 1 or layer 2 transmission. A location server may be provided with the positioning measurements or a position estimate from the UE and provide the position estimate to an external client within the measurement period.
