Abstract: An anti-lock brake control system has a brake pressure modulator operated by a single solenoid controlled on-off valve which effects brake apply, brake release, and brake pressure hold modes. The hold mode is achieved by dithering the solenoid valve. An electronic circuit responsive to rotation of a braked wheel supplies signals to the solenoid valve to effect the various modes. The circuit includes a wheel speed recovery circuit for supplying to the valve during wheel recovery an operating signal for dithering the valve at a first level of wheel acceleration and for producing a brake apply signal above a higher value of wheel acceleration.

Abstract: The invention utilizes a wheel speed proportional pressure generated by a transmission governor and a vehicle ground speed pressure provided by a vehicle ground speed computer and provides a hydraulic anti-lock brake system including a fluid pressure operated wheel brake, an operator actuated master cylinder, a low speed cutout valve which communicates the master cylinder pressure directly to the wheel brake at vehicle speeds below some predetermined level, a control valve which modulates the governor pressure to provide a control pressure proportional to the amount by which master cylinder pressure exceeds the brake pressure and a clutch modulator which acts at vehicle speeds above the threshold of the low speed cutout valve to provide a brake pressure proportional to the control pressure. The transmission governor is modified to receive the vehicle ground speed pressure and apply a force proportional thereto to the governor valve spool so that during wheel slip the governor pressure is a function of both wheel speed and ground speed, or, in other words, a function of the magnitude of wheel slip.

Abstract: A vehicle brake system includes a master cylinder, a regulating valve which modulates pump generated fluid pressure to provide a regulated pressure proportional to the master cylinder pressure, and a hydraulic actuator which provides a brake pressure proportional to the regulated pressure. Abstract: A brake control system includes a pressure operated wheel brake, a master cylinder, a positive displacement pump drivingly connected to the wheel, a brake actuator providing a brake pressure to the wheel brake in proportion to the pump generated pressure, an orifice exhausting the pump generated pressure at a rate which prevents the pump generated pressure from operating the actuator throughout the range of vehicle speeds, and a slip control valve in series connection with the orifice and providing a variable restriction to exhaustion of the pump generated pressure in proportion to the difference between the master cylinder and wheel brake pressures. Abstract: A vehicle ground speed computer provides a hydraulic pressure signal proportional to the vehicle speed relative to the ground and includes a transmission governor or equivalent means providing a source of hydraulic pressure proportional to the vehicle wheel speed, an accumulator which is charged by the wheel speed pressure source, a flow responsive valve which isolates the accumulator from the wheel speed pressure source whenever the flow therethrough from the accumulator to the wheel speed pressure source is indicative of a wheel deceleration rate in excess of a predetermined value, and a decelerometer actuated valve which exhausts pressure from the accumulator in proportion to the vehicle linear deceleration whereby the pressure remaining in the accumulator is proportional to the vehicle ground speed irrespective of wheel slip caused by excessive braking.

Abstract: An all hydraulic anti-lock brake control system includes an operator actuated master cylinder fluidly connected to a wheel brake, a brake pressure modulator interposed fluidly intermediate the master cylinder and wheel brake, a transmission governor providing a fluid pressure proportional to the wheel speed, vehicle ground speed computer providing a fluid pressure proportional to the vehicle linear speed and valve means providing a control pressure for operation of the brake pressure modulator as a function of the difference existing between wheel speed pressure and vehicle ground speed pressure. Abstract: An electronic control for an anti-lock brake control system provides different deceleration threshold reference signal levels for high and low coefficient surfaces. A coefficient select circuit is responsive to wheel acceleration during the period of wheel speed recovery in an anti-lock cycle and selects for use during the subsequent cycle one of the threshold values in accordance with the degree of wheel acceleration. Another circuit senses wheel hop during braking to further increase the threshold during wheel hop to desensitize the control to undesirable transients.
