摘要:
In a V-bed flat knitting machine, a set-up comb having a plurality of teeth which are hook shaped at their upper ends is up and down movably disposed beneath a gap between a pair of needle beds. When the set-up comb is elevated until the tooth ends thereof extend above the gap, the hooks at the tooth ends hook up loops to form a set-up course. If released at this stage, the comb is allowed to lower by its own weight the set-up course end of the fabric being knitted as knitting progresses while giving adequate tension to the fabric. There is provided a knockover plate such that when the set-up comb is lowered to a predetermined position the plate may push the hook-engaged fabric at a portion adjacent the lower end thereof and from the back side of the hooks. If the set-up comb is slightly elevated or the knockover plate is slightly lowered while the fabric is so pushed, then the set-up course is disengaged from the hooks.

This invention relates to a knitted fabric spreader device for flat knitting machines which have spiked rotatable rollers (14) disposed beneath the comb gap (12) of the needle beds of the machine. The spiked rollers (14) are mounted over the full length of the needle beds (10, 11) on a common carrier rod (13) concentric with this rod, and the common carrier rod (13) can be moved transversely to the longitudinal direction of the needle beds to provide for clearance of the comb gap (12) of the machine. To cater for this adjustment the carrier rod (13) is held on at least slides adjustable by means of a control cam (27). The rollers (14) are so mounted between eccentric intermediate discs (15) provided with a smooth peripheral edge that spikes (38) of the rollers (14) project radially above the intermediate discs (15) over a part only of the carrier rod (13) to engage the knitted fabric (29) (FIG. 2).

A presser foot device for a knitting machine includes a blade-like support which, when mounted in the knitting machine, extends downwardly with respect to the needles of the machine, a presser element carried by the support near its lower edge, and a channel-like protective element which enfolds the lower edges of the blade-like support to protect it. The channel-like protective element may include two laminas one at each side of the blade-like support and extending at least as low as the lower edge of the blade-like support, and at least one connecting member joining the laminas and extending between them below the lower edge of the blade-like support.

In a flat V-bed knitting machine with independently operable needles there is provided a presser foot device comprising a presser foot carriage arranged for movement along the needle beds of the machine in synchronism with needle operation, and a support element extending down towards the gap between the walls of the needle beds and resiliently mounted in relation to the carriage for up-and-down movement. The presser foot device comprises (a) presser means fixedly mounted on the support element, the presser means having, in operation, leading and trailing ends and being capable of operating over a region extending from in front of the commencement of the rise of the needles for knitting to the area of needle cross-over, (b) a continuous stitch guide surface provided on the presser means in the neighborhood of each bed wall and arranged, in the operative position of the presser means, to extend downwardly and rearwardly, and then generally rearwardly, to push down and hold down stitches near said wall, and (c) a resilient presser foot also fixedly mounted on said support element to extend rearwardly from the presser means beneath the needle tent at a height, in the region of the trailing end of the presser means, above said stitch guide surfaces thereof.

A flat knitting machine with a carriage movable over the needle beds incls stroking-in wires mounted in holders on the carriage with free wire ends trailing in the direction of carriage traverse in front of the withdrawal positions of the needles. These wires are moved into and out of their working positions at the regions where the carriage reverses its direction of movement. In order to make possible a selectively controlled switching of the stroking-in wires into and out of effective operation, indexing cams engageable with entraining fingers on the holders are arranged on the machine frame to be displaceable perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the needle beds, and lifting cams which can be switched into and out of action are mounted on the carriage for selective displacement of the indexing cams on the machine frame.

An improved presser foot device for straight bar knitting machines with double V needle beds, characterized by the fact that means are provided whereby the presser foot can be moved by the program controller of the machine automatically from one to another of two preselected hold down levels, one of which is appropriate for "rib border" knitting and the other for "jersey" knitting. A specific shape of presser foot is also disclosed, comprising a thin, flat configuration including a first wide section located towards the advancing end of the presser foot, a second markedly narrower section connected to the first section at an abrupt change in width and trailing the first section with respect to the advancing direction of the presser foot, and a third section trailing the second section, the third section being wider than the second section and connected to the latter along a gradually tapered section.
