Abstract:
A rotary vane type air lock for feeding granular abrasive materials into a pressurized chamber having means to prevent the abrasive material from coming between ends of the vanes and the air lock housing. A baffle prevents impingement of the material on the vane ends just before they reach an edge of the inlet opening. A thin sheet of high velocity air directed across the vane ends blasts off any material clinging to the end before the vane end comes into pressure sealing relationship with the housing.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dispensing welding flux involving a flux supply and dispensing system comprising a tank assembly that includes an upper flux receiving chamber, a lower flux dispensing chamber, and a flux transfer chamber intermediate the upper and lower chambers. Flux is supplied to the flux receiving chamber either by a vacuum pick up arrangement or a suitable gravity or mechanical feed arrangement, and screened. The floors of the upper chamber and transfer chamber are each ported and equipped with separate plug valves arranged to move vertically to open and close with a plug type fit the respective ports for sequentially transferring a welding flux charge first from the upper chamber to the transfer chamber, and then from the transfer chamber to the lower dispensing chamber, under the control of a sealed pneumatic actuation system that keeps the flux from fouling the moving parts involved. Dispensing of the flux from the lower chamber is by way of either gravity feed or fluidized feed through a hose to the point of use.
Abstract:
A device for conveying measured amounts of material which includes a rotating induction wheel having a plurality of elongate open-ended chambers defined therein and a pair of wipers arranged to remove excess material from the chamber ends. Pressure pads seal the chambers, and gas is introduced into the chambers to pulse the material out of the chambers into a material transport conduit. Metered charges of material are thus delivered to the transport conduit. An alternative embodiment of the metering device has a pair of sequential chambers pressurized simultaneously.
Abstract:
A sealing structure for a rotary valve including a rotary member having a plurality of pockets opening toward the outer periphery of a rotary member. A casing encloses the outer periphery of the rotary member. Sealing members are provided between the outer periphery of the rotary member and the inner periphery of the casing. The sealing members are adjustably projectable in the radial direction.
Abstract:
In apparatus for dosaging bulk material in a pneumatic conveying stream the dosaging is effected by means of an apertured disc having an annular array of through holes of small diameter which, as the disc rotates about an axis, transfer discrete quantities of bulk material from a column thereof in a supply container to a pneumatic conveying conduit through which the apertured portion of the disc passes between sealing rings which act as stripping elements. The disc is located coaxially within the supply container and driven by a motor whose speed is adjustable to allow the dosaging quantity to be varied. The conveying conduit is taken through the supply container and interrupted at the position of the apertured disc where the conduit is provided with the sealing elements. The bulk material is fluidized by air drawn in through the bottom of the container and extracted through the top by means of a fan which supplies the conveying air to the conduit. The disc has large apertures, which allow the bulk material to pass through it, radially inwardly of the annular array of small holes.
Abstract:
A reciprocating airlock valve used in the transfer of granular and powdered stock between two operations and the maintenance of a pressure differential therebetween. The airlock valve designed to maintain an air seal between the two operations while providing continuous material flow through the valve.

Abstract:
Apparatus for providing a continuous flow of fluent particulate material suspended in a gaseous stream from a bulk source. The pneumatically powered and controlled apparatus includes a material receiving chamber intermittently replenishing a second chamber operable to maintain a third or material dispensing chamber adequately charged at all times. The apparatus controls are responsive to the material level sensing means in the second chamber to initiate a recharging cycle when the material therein falls below a predetermined level.
Abstract:
The periphery of a bucket wheel sluice is provided with a plurality of vanes forming pockets for the reception and transport of material, the vanes and intervening spaces being shaped and arranged in an involute tooth configuration. A removal unit is provided to facilitate removal of material from the pockets, and comprises at least two spaced discs of involute tooth configuration in mesh engagement with the bucket wheel periphery, and having a plurality of elongated rods or blades extending between corresponding teeth of the spaced discs for passage through each of the bucket wheel pockets to mechanically remove any material entrapped therein.
Abstract:
A rotary feeder has a valvular rotor rotating on an axis in a cylindrical cavity. A plurality of rigid, free-floating blades project from a hub of the rotor to delimit several material-receiving pockets circumferentially distributed over the hub. The inner edges of the blades rest in axial recesses in the hub and are supported by fixed projections extending outwardly from the hub along the trailing side of the blades. The recesses permit limited angular movement of the blades relative to the hub. The blades have widths from the hub to the periphery of the cylindrical cavity greater than corresponding radii through the inner edges of the blades at the hub, whereby the blades are angularly inclined relative to such radii. Top portions of the blades are applied to peripheral wall portions of the cylindrical cavity. The recesses, the fixed projections, and peripheral wall portions of the cylindrical cavity cooperate to hold the blades in position. The fixed projections carry means for urging the blades toward the corresponding radii. The blades are biased or periodically adjusted angularly toward the mentioned corresponding radii during wear of the outer portions and the peripheral wall portions to maintain worn top portions of the blades applied to the peripheral wall portions of the cylindrical cavity.
