    Abstract: A stalk switch having a simplified structure and wide general-purpose applicability is provided. The stalk switch comprises an operating lever 4 manually operated by an operator, a supporting member 2 for rockably supporting the operating lever 4, an electromagnetic brake 5 arranged opposite to a base end of the operating lever 4, an optical image sensor 6 for detecting the operational state of the operating lever 4, and controlling means 8 for controlling the drive of the electromagnetic brake 5 based on an output signal a from the optical image sensor 6, wherein the range of movement of the operating lever 4 is defined by the electromagnetic brake 5, and a predetermined tactile response corresponding the operational state is given to the operating lever 4.

    Abstract: A PTO switch for the attachment drive of a lawn and garden tractor includes a solenoid activated detent to retain the normally off switch in an on position. The switch includes an interlock override position for permitting a function such as mow in reverse. An interlock circuit interrupts drive to the attachment under certain conditions. Once drive is interrupted for any reason, the solenoid deactivates and the switch is moved to the off position so that PTO switch position corresponds to attachment drive condition, even when the drive is interrupted by means other than movement of the switch.

    Abstract: In a stalk switch, a control lever is rotatably supported on a housing, and a driving member is slidably held on the base end of the control lever via a first spring. A sectionally V-shaped cam surface is provided inside the housing, and an end of the driving member is pressed into contact with a cam surface, whereby the control lever can be rotated between the neutral position and the left and right operating positions. A stopper member is slidably supported on the housing, and the stopper member is urged by a second spring having an urging force smaller than that of the first spring so as to project from the valley of the cam surface. An attraction member is attached to a rotating member rotating operatively associated with the slide of the stopper member, and an electromagnet is attached to the housing so as to oppose the attraction member. When the control lever is rotated to the operating position, the attraction member is attracted by the electromagnet, whereby the stopper member is held in a state projected from the valley of the cam surface, and the driving member is latched in the operating position by the stopper member.

    Abstract: A switch assembly has an actuator assembly which is operable to actuate switches between first and second conditions. A pushbutton is movable from an initial position through an intermediate position to a fully actuated position to affect operation of the actuator assembly to actuate the switches from the first condition to the second condition. As the pushbutton moves to the fully actuated position, a holding coil is energized to hold the actuator assembly in the actuated condition to maintain the switches in the second condition upon a releasing of the pushbutton. A control circuit is activated by optical sensors to prevent energization of the holding coil until the pushbutton has been moved from the initial position to the fully actuated position. The control circuit maintains the holding coil energized until the pushbutton has been released for movement back to its initial position and then operated for a second time to its fully actuated position. Therefore, partial actuation or teasing of the pushbutton does not cause the holding coil to become energized or de-energized. A remote switch is actuatable to effect de-energization of the holding coil.

    Abstract: A battery jumper cable assembly for preventing electrical sparking when a pair of batteries are connected together. The battery cable assembly includes a ground wire and a power wire with a switch assembly being connected at a location along the length of the power wire. The switch assembly includes a housing for a slidable switch element having an electrically conductive contact plate. The switch element is biased toward a normally open or off position by a spring. The power wire includes spaced apart contacts within the housing and the switch contact plate is movable to bridge the gap between the contacts. An electromagnet is mounted within the housing in alignment with the slidable switch element, and the electromagnet is electrically connected to the ground wire and to a contact element within the switch housing.
