摘要:
A scroll compressor includes scroll compressor bodies with axial tip seals projecting from the respective scroll ribs of fixed and movable scroll compressor bodies. An extended thrust region is provided in surrounding relation to an inner axial tip sealing region to provide for carrying thrust loads in the event that the scroll compressor bodies are forced axially together. Part of the thrust region may carry a tip seal, while another part may be free of a tip seal. This provides for at least a nominal reverse operation capability.

A scroll compressor includes a baffle member in a high pressure region of the housing where compressed fluid is stored. The baffle serves to carry and transfer pressure loads away from the central region to an outer periphery region where such loads can be transferred to the outer housing. Deflection, stress and wear on the scroll compressor bodies may be reduced.

A system has a number of parallel flowpath segments between a compressor and an evaporator. One or more valves selectively block and unblock at least one of the segments to provide capacity control.

A refrigeration system has first and second evaporators which may be operated at first and second temperatures. Refrigerant from a lower temperature evaporator may be returned to a compressor suction port. Refrigerant from the higher temperature evaporator may be returned to an intermediate port.

An unloader valve for a scroll compressor to selectively communicate suction and discharge is positioned outwardly of the compressor housing. In this way, the unloader valve is ideally positioned to address several system failures. As an example, loss or charge, reverse running, fan failure, etc. are all addressed in an efficient and quick manner. The unloader valve may be the normal unloader valve controlled by a system control which also selectively controls capacity. The unloader valve control is modified such that it is also operable to open the unloader valve when a system failure is detected.

A scroll compressor assembly includes a first linear drive for driving a first scroll along a first linear axis and a second linear drive for driving the first or second scroll along a second linear axis which is non-parallel to the first linear axis. Relative orbital movement between the first and second scrolls is obtained by controlling the frequency of oscillations of the first linear motor along a first linear axis and the second linear motor along the second linear axis. Further, capacity control is achieved by varying the movement of the first and second linear motors.

Scroll compressors having a non-orbiting scroll the type that moves axially for a limited distance are provided with an economizer fluid tube. The economizer tube is received within an opening in the non-orbiting scroll such that the non-orbiting scroll can move relative to the tube. This is an improvement over the prior art, and provides a more secure and simple connection.

A counterweight is attached to a rotating shaft by a slip fit, combined with two axially abutting surfaces to hold the counterweight. The counterweight is preferably held at one face by a ledge formed on the shaft, and at the opposed face by a portion of the motor rotor. Circumferentially spaced abutting surfaces also hold the counterweight to cause the counterweight to rotate with the rotor. The present invention eliminates the need for separately attaching the counterweight to the shaft, and thus reduces both the complexity of assembly, and also the need for precise manufacturing tolerances for the counterweight.
