Abstract: Disclosed herein are techniques related to automatic real-time meal detection. In some embodiments, the techniques involve obtaining a plurality of glucose concentration values and a plurality of plasma insulin concentration estimations, each glucose concentration value corresponding with a respective plasma insulin concentration estimation; generating an output based on applying a meal detection model to the plurality of glucose concentration values and the plurality of plasma insulin concentration estimations; and determining, based on the output, that a glucose concentration value of the plurality of glucose concentration values corresponds to an ongoing glycemic response to a meal.

Abstract: Infusion systems, infusion devices, and related operating methods are provided. An exemplary method of operating an infusion device capable of delivering fluid to a patient involves predicting, by a control system associated with the infusion device, a future occurrence of an event based at least in part on historical data associated with the patient, and prior to the future occurrence of the event, automatically adjusting a control parameter for operating the infusion device based at least in part on the event and automatically operating an actuation arrangement of the infusion device to deliver the fluid to the patient based at least in part on a current measurement of the physiological condition and the adjusted control parameter.

Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein relate to providing guidance for configuring a medical device to a user in response to detected gestures of the user. In some embodiments, the techniques involve obtaining sensor data indicative of one or more gestures of a user of a medical device, and detecting a configuration procedure being performed on the medical device by the user based on the sensor data, where the configuration procedure includes a sequence of tasks to be performed by the user to configure the medical device. The techniques also involve determining one or more tasks of the configuration procedure that have been performed by the user based on the sensor data, identifying a subsequent task of the configuration procedure to be performed by the user based on the one or more tasks, and generating guidance information for performing the subsequent task of the configuration procedure.

Abstract: A system includes one or more processors and one or more processor-readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of obtaining an insulin-on-board (IOB) value, wherein the IOB value is a quantity of insulin remaining in a patient following delivery of a bolus of insulin, scaling a total daily dose (TDD) value by a factor, to generate a result having a value that is less than the TDD value, based on determining that the IOB value is greater than the result, identifying a condition in which the patient's glucose level will continue to decrease after suspension of basal insulin dosage delivery, and responsive to identifying the condition, causing performance of an action for preventing the patient's glucose level from falling into a hypoglycemic range in combination with the suspension of basal insulin dosage delivery.

After the initial monitoring period, the method continues by obtaining an updated measurement value during a fasting period, determining a current value for the metric based at least in part on the updated measurement value, and generating a notification in response to a deviation between the current value and the fasting reference value exceeding a threshold indicative of insertion site loss or other loss of effectiveness.

Abstract: Processor-implemented methods of controlling an insulin infusion device for a user are provided here. A first method obtains a current insulin on board (IOB) value that estimates active insulin in the user, and compensates a calculated insulin infusion rate in response to the obtained IOB value. A second method supervises the operation of a glucose sensor by obtaining and processing insulin-delivered data and glucose sensor data for the user. An alert is generated if the second method determines that a current glucose sensor value has deviated from a predicted sensor glucose value by at least a threshold amount.

Abstract: An insulin infusion device includes a processor architecture, and a memory element that stores executable instructions to perform a method of controlling delivery of insulin to a user. The method operates the device in a closed-loop mode to deliver insulin, obtains patient-specific parameters for a current time sample, and estimates a plasma insulin value and a blood glucose value for the user based on at least some of the patient-specific parameters. The estimating is also based on a previously estimated plasma insulin value obtained for a previous time sample, and a previously estimated blood glucose value obtained for the previous time sample. A predicted sensor glucose value is generated for the current time sample, and the closed-loop mode or a safe basal mode is selected for controlling operation of the insulin infusion device in accordance with the selected mode.
