Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are provided in which a CE protocol communication session is established, at a first provider edge network device (PE), for customer equipment device (CE) multi-homed to the first PE and one or more second PEs. The first PE is an owner of the CE protocol communication session. The first PE signals to the one or more second PEs an ownership message indicating that the first PE is the owner of the CE protocol communication session. The ownership message includes parameters that enable one or more second PEs to install in their respective forwarding tables a redirect policy to instruct the respective PE to forward packets of this session to the first PE via an overlay segment. The first PE receives the packets of the session via the overlay segment based on the ownership message.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, by a route reflector, a subscription request from a first provider edge node in a network and generating a subscription policy for the first provider edge node. The method also includes receiving a first Ethernet Virtual Private Network (EVPN) Type 2 Route from a second provider edge node, assigning a sequence number to the first EVPN Type 2 Route, and communicating the first EVPN Type 2 Route with the sequence number to the first provider edge node. The method further includes receiving a second EVPN Type 2 Route from a third provider edge node, generating an updated sequence number in response to receiving the second EVPN Type 2 Route from the third provider edge node, and communicating the second EVPN Type 2 Route with the updated sequence number to the first provider edge node and the second provider node.

Abstract: A networking environment includes a first node and a second node configured as Ethernet Virtual Private Networking (EVPN) peers on an EVPN subnet that is coupled to a Layer 3 VPN over a core network. The first node receives a first multicast join request from a third node in the core network, the first multicast join request including a source address and multicast group address of a source of a multicast stream. The first node determines that the source address and the multicast group address for the source are behind the EVPN subnet at the second node. The first node sends to the second node, a control plane join request message that includes a receiver identifier that identifies the third node as a receiver of the multicast stream, the receiver identifier enabling the second node to forward the multicast stream directly into the core network to the third node.

Abstract: This disclosure describes methods of operating a leaf node device, such as a switch device, connected to a switch fabric of a network. The leaf node device receives, from another leaf node device via the switch fabric, an indication of a secure route to a host device. In response to receiving the indication of the secure route, the leaf node device creates or updates a routing entry for the host device in a routing information base of the leaf node device and creates or updates an entry for the host device in a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) snoop database of the leaf node device. The leaf node may thereby communicate with the host device that is attached to the leaf node device as a result of moving from the other leaf node device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method according to the present disclosure includes receiving a topology change message at a core edge node and performing a network address information removal operation. The core edge node participates in network communications with one or more access network nodes of an access network using an access network protocol. The topology change message indicates that a topology change has occurred in the access network, and the topology change message conforms to the access network protocol. The network address information removal operation removes network address information stored by the core edge node, and the network address information is used by the core edge node in participating in the network communications.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for fast convergence for virtual ethernet segments in EVPN and PBB-EVPN networks are disclosed. A first provider edge (PE) device can receive one or more advertising messages corresponding to one or more virtual ethernet segments, wherein each of the one or more advertising messages can include a port identifier. The first PE device maintains a table including the one or more virtual ethernet segments and the corresponding port identifier. The first PE device can receive a failure message from a second PE device that identifies a first port on the second PE device, and identifies, based on the table, at least one affected virtual ethernet segment that is associated with the first port. The first PE device can remove any routes that are associated with the at least one affected virtual ethernet segment and trigger mass designated-forwarding election for impacted virtual ethernet segments.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for controlling multicast traffic flows through provider edge routers. In some examples, a multicast traffic of one or more multicast traffic flows is received from a multicast source at a first provider edge router of a plurality of provider edge routers. A multicast routing message including a loopback address of the first provider edge router can be originated at the first provider edge router. The multicast routing message can be flooded into a multicast core network for controlling traffic in the one or more multicast flows through the multicast core network to the first provider edge router. Subsequently, multicast joins can be received at the first provider edge router for establishing the one or more multicast flows through the multicast core network based on the multicast routing message including the loopback address of the first provider edge router.

Abstract: A method is performed by a first provider edge (PE) of a redundancy group including provider edges configured with an Ethernet virtual private network (EVPN) segment identifier (EVI) and an Ethernet segment identifier (ESI) and that are multi-homed to a customer edge (CE). The method includes, upon receiving from the CE a join request including a group address for a multicast stream, electing a designated forwarder (DF) for the multicast stream. The electing includes: computing for each PE a respective affinity for the DF as a function of a respective address of the PE, the EVI, and the group address; and determining which PE has a largest affinity. The method further includes, if the first PE has the largest affinity or does not have the largest affinity, configuring the first PE as the designated forwarder or not configuring the first PE as the designated forwarder for the multicast stream, respectively.
