Abstract: An image forming system comprising: an apparatus main body equipped with an image forming portion, and a control portion that controls a fixing operation of fixing the image on the recording material, wherein a first fixing unit having a first heater and a first number of first temperature detection elements that detect the temperature of the first heater and a second fixing unit having a second heater and a second number of second temperature detection elements that detect the temperature of the second heater, can be selectively mounted on the apparatus main body, and the control portion controls the fixing operation on the basis of first temperature information detected by the first temperature detection elements when the first fixing unit is mounted, and controls the fixing operation on the basis of second temperature information detected by the second temperature detection elements when the second fixing unit is mounted.

Abstract: A fixing apparatus including: a first rotary member; a second rotary member; a nip forming member; and a heater. The nip forming member includes: a first projection portion inside a nip area; and a second projection portion located outside the nip area. The first and second projection portion abut against the inner circumferential surface of the first rotary member. In a direction orthogonal to a nip tangent, a distance between a tip of the second projection portion and the nip tangent is larger than a distance between a tip of the first projection portion and the nip tangent. The second projection portion extends toward the second rotary member without exceeding the nip tangent. A radius of curvature at a tip portion of the second projection portion is smaller than a radius of an inner circumferential circle of the first rotary member.

Abstract: A pressing device includes a pressure lever that is platy and has a thickness t. The pressure lever pivots. A cam presses the pressure lever. A cam follower is mounted on the pressure lever and disposed opposite the cam. The cam follower transmits pressure from the cam to the pressure lever. The cam follower has a contact face that contacts the cam and a side face that is perpendicular to the contact face. The contact face has a length W in a thickness direction of the pressure lever and a length L1 in an orthogonal direction perpendicular to the thickness direction of the pressure lever. The length L1 is defined from a contact position where the cam follower contacts the cam to the side face of the cam follower. The thickness t, the length W, and the length L1 satisfy a relation defined by L1≥0.6×(W−t)/2+0.2.

Abstract: A fixing device includes a fixing belt that is endless and rotatable. A nip formation pad is disposed opposite an inner circumferential face of the fixing belt via a lubricant. A pressure roller sandwiches the fixing belt together with the nip formation pad to form a pressing region through which a recording medium is conveyed. Abstract: An image forming apparatus for forming a toner image on a recording material includes a fixing unit and a blower unit to blow air around a roller. The fixing unit includes a tubular shape film, a heating member disposed in a space surrounded by the film, and the roller forming a nip portion with the heating member. The fixing unit heats and fixes the toner image onto the recording material at the nip portion. For printing that forms toner images on continuously conveyed recording materials where a roller surface temperature is lower than a predetermined temperature, fan stop and operation periods are set. During the fan stop period, the blower unit is stopped and an interval between preceding and subsequent recording materials is widened. During the fan operation period, the blower unit is in operation and the interval is narrower than the interval during the fan stop period.

Further, as regards the heat generating elements 523a-623c provided on the front surface, with respect to a rotational direction of the fixing belt, the longest heat generating element 623b in length with respect to the widthwise direction is disposed between the heat generating element 623a and the heat generating element 623c.

Abstract: A fixing device includes a belt having a tubular shape and extending in a longitudinal direction, and having a longitudinal end, a drive roller to rotate the belt to convey a print medium between the drive roller and the belt, a bushing located at the longitudinal end of the belt, and a guide wall adjacent to the bushing. Abstract: A nip forming device includes an endless belt that is flexible and rotates and a nip former that is disposed opposite an inner circumferential face of the endless belt. A pressure rotator presses against the nip former via the endless belt to form a nip between the endless belt and the pressure rotator, through which a conveyed object is conveyed. A separator is disposed downstream from the nip in a conveyance direction of the conveyed object. The separator separates the conveyed object from the endless belt. The separator includes a non-contact portion separated from the endless belt and a contact portion that contacts the endless belt. The contact portion retains a gap having a predetermined size between the non-contact portion and the endless belt.
