摘要:
A water-cooled mold for use in continuous steel casting process has at least two vertically-spaced coils arranged in the wall structure of the mold so as to surround molten steel in the mold or in a solidification shell within the mold and such that a jet of molten steel from an immersion nozzle of a tundish in the molten steel collides with the mold wall at a level between the coils. During supplying the molten steel from the tundish into the mold, the coils are supplied with DC currents of opposite directions so as to generate cusp fields in the mold, thereby suppressing the movement of the jet of the molten steel, as well as ascending and descending flows of the molten steel after collision with the mold wall.

An apparatus for continuous casting of molten steel comprises a continuous casting mold; an electromagnetic stirring coil, which rotates and fluidizes molten steel inside the mold and which is installed outside the mold; and a screen of ferromagnetic substance positioned between the mold and the electromagnetic stirring coil at a height including a level of meniscus. A method for continuous casting of molten steel comprises the steps of pouring molten steel into a continuous casting mold; applying an electromagnetic force to the molten steel in the mold by means of an electromagnetic coil installed outside the continuous casting mold; and shielding said electromagnetic force by means of a screen of ferromagnetic substance installed between the mold and electromagnetic coil at a height including a level of meniscus.

An improved discrete excitation coil is provided in a continuous casting machine for generating an electromagnetic levitating and stabilizing force which acts upon the meniscus of the molten metal in a mold cavity of the machine at the region of an upper inlet to the cavity. The force counteracts the head pressure of the molten metal contained within a pouring tube which extends through the upper inlet from above the cavity and thereby providing a seal in an area of separation between the mold inlet and the pouring tube which prevents overflow of molten metal through the inlet. The excitation coil includes an outer electrical conductor which defines multiple electrical conductor turns disposed in series and being capable of carrying an electrical current of adequate density to generate the electromagnetic force. The coil also includes plural inner fluid channels which define fluid flow paths being surrounded by, and in contact with, the outer electrical conductor. The inner fluid channels are less in number than that of the multiple turns, and disposed in parallel to, but independent of, one another and in close proximity to the multiple turns. Coolant fluid circulated in the independent flow paths of the inner fluid channels can thereby provide sufficient cooling of the multiple turns to facilitate conduction therethrough of a high enough density electrical current to produce the required electromagnetic force.

The continuous casting of heavy metals in a magnetic field is improved by using a magnetic field in the form of essentially uniform flux lines closely parallel to the casting surface. The instability experienced with the liquid meniscus is minimized and higher intensity fields, permitting casting of heavier metals, can be achieved.

The process and apparatus according to the invention concern continuous casting of hollow bodies of metals such as aluminum, copper, steels of all types, or other metals or alloys. The process comprises introducing the liquid metal into an annular space between an outer mold and an inner mandrel, the liquid metal being subjected in the vicinity of the mandrel to the action of a movable magnetic field which entrains it in an upward direction. The magnetic field is preferably generated by a magnetic rotor which is disposed in the mandrel. The process is used in particular for producing blanks intended for the production of non-welded pipes and tubes.

Installation comprising a reservoir crucible 11, 12 for molten cast-iron F with step-by-step extraction of a pipe T produced from the crucible comprising a cooled die. To obtain a cast-iron pipe of uniform thickness over its entire circular periphery, despite the absence of a core, the molten cast-iron F is set in slow rotation in the crucible by the tangential supply of molten cast-iron with a low rate of flow through a tangential orifice 18, by the rotation of a magnet 36 disposed in a hollow central relief 17 upstanding from the base of the crucible, by the rotation of paddle arms 44 disposed in the molten iron, or by the tangential injection of an inert gas.

Electromagnetically stirring a molten metal in a continuously casting mold, wherein a plurality of linear motor type stirrer units each having a square shape each side of which is smaller than the height dimension of the mold are arranged in parallel along the long sides of the mold in such a manner that they are adapted to change the attached posture by 90.degree., so as changing the direction of a stirring flow of the molten steel into a given direction. As a result the surface defect is removed and the quality of the solidification structure is improved, and the application range of the kinds of the steels to be cast can be enlarged.

An electromagnetic within-mold stirring method and apparatus wherein electromagnetic stirring is imparted to molten steel passing through a mold, under the following conditions where the maximum flux density (in gauss) of a magnetic field induced by an electro-magnetic coil ranges from 1045.e.sup.-0.16f to 2054.e.sup.-0.12f (f: frequency, 1-15 Hz) and the place of the maximum magnetic flux density is within the range of 350 mm from the junction between the pouring nozzle and the mold in the direction of drawing of the cast-piece.

During continuous casting, the stream of molten metal poured into the mold is acted on by a static magnetic field so as to split the stream into smaller streams stirring the unsolidified metal in the mold.

A continuous casting apparatus in which a multi-plate continuous casting mold is provided with an electromagnetic inductor for imparting rotary motion to the molten metal within the mold. Each plate is provided with a cooling chamber on its side turned away from the molten metal and an inductor is disposed around the mold so that the poles of the inductor approach the cooling chambers and are formed with passages through which threaded bolts can pass to serve as demountable support elements whereby the inductor is affixed to the chambers and by the latter to the mold. The passages run parallel to the planes of the sheets forming the laminated inductor. The withdrawal of the bolts permits separation of the inductor from the cooling chambers and thus separation of the plates so that grinding and removal of shims can compensate for the wear of the cavity-defining surfaces.
