Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method includes determining, based at least in part on a number of downlink component carriers (CCs) scheduled for a user equipment (UE) during a reporting interval, a number of bits to be included in a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (ACK/NAK) payload for the reporting interval; and selecting, based at least in part on the determined number of bits, a format of the PUCCH ACK/NAK payload.

Abstract: UE-aided channel selection within unlicensed frequency bands. A base station may communicate with UEs using LTE/LTE-A carrier waveforms (e.g., configured as a secondary cell) in the unlicensed frequency band. The base station may configure UEs for wide-band interference feedback for channels in the unlicensed frequency band. The measurements of wide-band signal strength may be performed by the UEs on channels for which the base station is not currently transmitting, or during silent periods of a configured secondary cell. The UEs may feedback an average total received power over a measurement bandwidth for one or more frequency channels of the unlicensed frequency band. The base station may receive the wide-band signal strength feedback from the UEs and identify potential frequency channels for channel selection for the secondary cell based on its own measurements of the candidate channels, and the wide-band signal strength feedback from the UEs.

Abstract: In eMTC, channels may be bundled, using repetitions in multiple subframes. SPS and DRX for eMTC may not accommodate such repetitions, because repetitions for a bundled channel may fall only partially within a DRX ON duration. An apparatus addresses this problem by determining a DRX ON duration, determining a set of subframes carrying a bundled M-PDCCH candidate and determining that the DRX ON duration at least partially overlaps with the set of subframes of the bundled M-PDCCH. The apparatus then refrains from decoding the first bundled M-PDCCH candidate, decodes the first bundled M-PDCCH candidate, or extends the DRX ON duration to include the set of subframes entirely and decoding the first bundled M-PDCCH candidate carried in the set of subframes in the extended DRX ON duration. The apparatus may also determine DRX configuration parameters based on parameters of bundled channels, and handle invalid subframes for an SPS grant.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for decreasing user plane latency in a wireless communication system. This may include routing a portion of bearer traffic to or from a UE through a local or serving gateway, or within or between base stations, rather than via the core network. In some examples, techniques for selected internet protocol flow ultra-low latency (SIPFULL) for systems in which users may have subscribed to enhanced services may be employed. The network may, for instance, authorize SIPFULL functionalities for UEs per access point name (APN) based on individual services subscribed by the UE to improve overall quality of service (QoS). In some examples, a UEs latency requirements or SIPFULL authorizations may affect mobility operations.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for transmission of small data packets through a paging procedure in a MTC or cellular internet of things system (CIoT). A core network may receive data to be transmitted to a user equipment (UE) and may determine that a small data packet transmission may be initiated for the data. The core network may format the small data packet into a paging request that includes the data and a UE identification, and transmit the paging request to a base station. The base station may receive the paging request, and initiate a page process with the UE. The UE may receive a page message, and initiate an access procedure that may be used for transmission of the small data. The UE may be in idle mode prior to the small data transmission, and in some examples may return to idle mode following the transmission of the small data.

Abstract: Techniques are described for preempting resource allocations to one or more UEs in the event that delay sensitive data is received. A resource allocation of a number of symbols may be granted to a first user equipment (UE) for first associated data to be transmitted. Subsequently, data may be received for a second UE that is more delay sensitive than the first data. The resource allocation to the first UE may be preempted, and resources allocated to the second UE for the second data within a variable length transmission time interval (TTI) of the resource allocation to the first UE. UEs may monitor for preemption during transmissions to other UEs in order to receive new resource grants associated with the preempted resource grant. Whether a UE monitors transmissions for preemption may be determined based on a quality or service (QoS) of the UE.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer readable-medium for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives data via a first group of component carriers (CCs) of a plurality of groups of aggregated CCs. The first group of CCs correspond to unlicensed or shared frequencies. The apparatus selects a CC from at least two CCs of the first group of CCs for transmission on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH). The selection of the CC is based on at least an uplink-transmission clearance status of each of the at least two CCs. The apparatus transmits the PUCCH via the selected CC.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a dynamic coverage enhancement (CE) configuration and then autonomously transition from one CE level to another while in idle mode. The network may blindly detect the CE change during a paging procedure. For example, a mobility management entity (MME) may store dynamic CE information, and it may provide the dynamic CE information to base stations when the UE is paged. In some cases, the base stations may autonomously retransmit paging messages at different CE levels based on the dynamic CE information. In other examples, the MME may direct the base station to retransmit at different CE levels.

Abstract: An apparatus may receive signaling from a base station that indicates different tone indices. The apparatus may further transmit a plurality of symbols in a single tone uplink transmission. In an aspect, groups of symbols in the plurality of symbols are transmitted using the different tone indices of the single tone uplink transmission indicated by the received signaling. A second apparatus may signal to at least one user equipment (UE) information associated with different tone indices for use in transmitting a plurality of symbols in a single tone uplink transmission. The second apparatus may further receive the plurality of symbols in the single tone uplink transmission. In an aspect, pairs of symbols in the plurality of symbols are received in different tone indices of the single tone uplink transmission.
