摘要： The invention relates to a method and a device for longitudinally adjusting the position of a rotating rod string, having an upper end and a lower end, in a production well of the type having a downhole rotary pump connected to the lower end of the rod string, means for driving the rotary pump by rotating the rod string, and a lower clamp operably connected to the driving means and releasably fixable near the upper end of the rod string such that operation of the driving means rotates the lower clamp which rotates the rod string. The device is comprised of a tubular inner sleeve having a threaded outer surface and a lower end for removably mounting on the lower clamp such that the rod string is contained therein and rotation of the lower clamp by the driving means rotates the inner sleeve. A tubular outer sleeve having an upper end and a threaded inner surface is mounted about and threadably engaged with the inner sleeve. An upper clamp is mounted on the upper end of the outer sleeve and is releasably fixable to the rod string so that while the lower clamp is released from the rod string and the upper clamp is fixed to the rod string, operation of the driving means rotates the lower clamp and the inner sleeve such that the outer sleeve telescopes relative to the inner sleeve until the rod string is longitudinally adjusted within the well by longitudinal movement of the upper clamp.

摘要： An elevator for supporting a string of pipe in a well rig is actuable between a closed condition for gripping of the pipe and an open condition, and includes a safety device for preventing opening of the elevator when a string of pipe is positioned in and supported by the elevator, to thus prevent accidental dropping of the string into a well. The elevator may be opened and closed by air pressure, with the safety device preferably including a sensing element positioned to respond to the presence of a well pipe in the elevator at a location to be supported thereby, and a valve actuable by the sensing element to control the delivery of pressure fluid to the elevator.

摘要： An apparatus for gripping a down hole tubular for support and rotation, or a string of such tubulars, includes a body element adapted to be rotated at high torques either by a top head drive or a rotary table of an earth drilling machine. Gripping elements are mounted in a central cavity of the body element, and each gripping element includes a lower gripping portion shaped to engage a tapered shoulder of a length of drill pipe to support the drill pipe and an upper gripping portion shaped to engage the tool joint of the drill pipe to rotate the drill pipe. First guides are secured between the body element and the lower gripping portions in the central cavity, and these first guides are oriented to approach one another toward a lower portion of the body element. Second guides are secured between the upper and lower gripping portions, and these second guides are oriented to approach one another at an acute angle with respect to the axis. Links are secured to the gripping elements such that initial downward movement of the links forces the lower gripping portions radially inwardly along the first guides and further downward movement of the links after the lower gripping portions have seated against the down hole tubular forces the upper gripping portions radially inwardly along the second guides. The disclosed apparatus serves as a combination elevator, make-up/break-out tong or wrench set, spinner, and drill string rotation mechanism. It is fully compatible with remote control and automation.

摘要： A casing jacking mechanism is positionable in the rotary table opening of a well drilling rig to lower casing into the well, and is preferably formed sectionally of a number of components adapted to be assembled temporarily on the rig and subsequently dismantled after the casing has been lowered. The jacking machanism may include a first support structure to be located above the upper end of the well, two piston and cylinder mechanisms adapted to be lowered at different sides of the axis of the well to positions in which their cylinders are connected by the support structure, a second support structure connectable to and actuable vertically by the pistons of the piston and cylinder mechanisms a spider unit adapted to be placed on the first support structure and releasably engageable with the well pipe, and an elevator to be positioned on the second support structure for movement vertically therewith and also releasably engageable with the well pipe.

摘要： Apparatus for pulling drill pipe has four hydraulic legs which extend and retract surface engaging feet to raise and lower a frame. A drill pipe gripping mechanism is mounted to the frame and comprises a slip bowl with an inner surface tapering inwardly and downwardly and a plurality of wedge-shaped slips which have one surface tapered to engage the inner surface of the slip bowl and the other surface parallel to the axis of the slip bowl. The slips slide down to engage a drill pipe surface and the hydraulic legs are extended to pull the pipe upwards. A control ring is mounted to the frame for limited axial movement and connecting members connect each slip to the control ring. A plurality of smaller hydraulic cylinders are connected between the frame and the control ring so that when these cylinders are extended the control ring is raised to pull the slips upwardly and thus ensure the slips disengage the surface of the drill pipe before the four hydraulic legs are retracted for the next cycle.
