    摘要: The present invention relates to an optical amplifier and the like having a flatter gain spectrum in the wavelength band of 1490 nm to 1520 nm than before. The optical amplifier according to the present invention comprises an Er-doped optical waveguide and a Tm-doped optical waveguide having gain spectra difference from each other in the wavelength band. The signal light entered through the input end is first amplified by the Er-doped optical waveguide, and thereafter is amplified by the Tm-doped optical waveguide. The gain deviation of the amplified signal light, which has been amplified in the Er- and Tm-doped optical waveguides and outputted through the output end, can be reduced over the wavelength band.

    摘要: A fiber amplifier suitable for high power, narrow linewidth applications exhibits suppression of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) by segmenting the fiber amplifier into separate portions that exhibit different Brillouin center frequencies. By changing the center frequencies in adjoining segments of the fiber amplifier, the backward-propagating Stokes signal is essentially blocked, and SBS is suppressed. In a preferred embodiment the segmentation is added to the terminating portion of the fiber amplifier. Various techniques, including temperature modifications, can be used to impart the desired center frequency shift.

    摘要: A laser-system comprises master-oscillator/power-amplifier (51) whereby the master-oscillator comprises a pulsed diode (3) and a pumped active optical fiber power-amplifier (9). Substantially all guides of laser light (5, 9, 31, 29, 33, 25, 35, 39, 45) are optical fibers. The pulsed diode (3) is not temperature stabilized. To reduce nevertheless amplified spontaneous emission generated in the optical fiber amplifier (9), a narrow band-pass filter unit (29) is used. Filter unit (29) has a central wavelength with a temperature dependence which is matched to the temperature dependent wavelength shift of the pulsed diode (3).

    摘要: Raman tilt is induced by the propagation of optical signals in optical communication fibers during and after transient events. Certain characteristics of the light are monitored at each amplification node and Raman tilt correction is achieved by spectral tilt control optics. The light is monitored either as total power, and/or the power of light after passing through one or more optical filters. In the case of EDFA (Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier) the correction is performed by adjusting stage gains and VOA loss distribution within the amplifier. The light detection is relatively fast, whereby the tilt is compensated by fast controlled VOA and pump power adjustment during a transient event.

    摘要: A laser oscillator includes a ring resonator. The ring resonator includes an optical circulator having first, second, third, and fourth ports and a first optical amplification fiber connected to the optical circulator. Light incident on the first port is exited from the second port, and light incident on the second port is exited from the third port. The fourth port provides an exciting light and injects the exciting light into the ring resonator through the first port. The first optical amplification fiber amplifies light exited from the third port with the exciting light provided by the fourth port. The laser oscillator also includes an optical member connected to the optical circulator. The optical member reflects at least a part of the light exited from the second port and injects the same into the second port again.
