    Abstract: An exercise machine has a flywheel, a rotary input member, and a clutch mechanism that is positionable in a freewheel position in which rotation of the rotary input member causes rotation of the flywheel and wherein thereafter ceasing rotation of the rotary input member permits continued rotation of the flywheel. The clutch mechanism is alternately positionable in a direct drive position in which rotation of the rotary input member causes rotation of the flywheel and wherein thereafter ceasing rotation of the rotary input member prevents continued rotation of the flywheel. Advantageously, movement of the clutch mechanism from the freewheel position to the direct drive position is prevented when rotation of the rotary input member is out of synchronization with rotation of the flywheel.

    Abstract: To provide a technique for helping a user to start a foot-pedaling exercise when he/she performs the foot-pedaling exercise. A foot-pedaling exercise system includes: a pedal unit including a pair of pedals;

    an equipment main body configured to rotatably support the pedal unit;
    a servomotor serving as a rotary actuator configured to rotate the pedal unit;
    an infrared sensor as an exercise monitoring sensor configured to detect the performance or the non-performance of a foot-pedaling exercise performed using the pedal unit; and a controller. The controller controls, when it has been determined that the foot-pedaling exercise is not being performed based on the result of the detection in the infrared sensor, the servomotor to cause the servomotor to rotate the pedal unit.

    Abstract: A realistic sloping simulation device for a fitness equipment is disclosed, generally including a fixed base, a host tube, a support frame, and a driving unit. The host tube has a first end coupled to the fixed base. The support frame has a lower end slidably coupled to the fixed base and an upper end pivoted to the host tube between the first end and the second end. The driving unit is disposed between the host tube and the support frame or between the host tube and the fixed base. The fixed base, the host tube, and the support frame jointly form a linkage mechanism. By means of the driving unit driving the lower end of the support frame to move relative to the fixed base or the host tube, the second end of the host tube is caused to swing or rotate so as to simulate different slopes.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an assisted rehabilitation system comprising a device with static-bicycle movement, and devices that automatically sense and manipulate body performance parameters, allowing the rehabilitation response process of a user to be optimised. In particular, the sensing devices measure the pedalling rate, the pedalling resistance and the user's pulse rate, allowing the optimum exercising range to be configured, depending on the data acquired from the patient and on the level of effort required from him or her. The system also comprises two motors. One motor drives a flywheel that allows the user to experience a variation in the pedalling rate while using the device. A second motor provides different levels of pedalling resistance, allowing muscular strength to be developed. When starting the activity, the user enters, on a touchscreen, the preliminary parameters for the desired pedalling rate and resistance level, which are analysed by a processing unit that calculates a suitable rehabilitation plan.

    Abstract: A pedal assembly for an exercise and rehabilitation device can include a disk having an axis of rotation. A central aperture can be formed in the disk along the axis. Spokes can extend radially from adjacent the central aperture toward a perimeter of the disk. The disk can be formed from a first material. In addition, a crank can be coupled to one of the spokes of the disk. The crank can have a hub concentric with the central aperture. Pedal apertures can extend along a radial length of the crank. The crank can be formed from a metallic material that differs from the first material. A pedal having a spindle can be interchangeably and releasably mounted to the pedal apertures in the crank.
