Abstract: Potentially off-grid grain conditioners that can be operably connected to an aeration grain bin or silo to blow heated air through the crop to dry the crop or to blow ambient temperature air through the crop to cool it are disclosed. A fan is powered by a motor that may be mounted inside the air stream to allow the heat from the motor to be collected and forced into the airstream that is blown into the grain bin. The engine exhaust may be routed through an air exchanger to remove heat from the exhaust and direct heat into the grain bin, or the exhaust may be put into the atmosphere without capturing any of the heat, which allows the fan to operate in a cooling mode. The motor may be mounted inline or mounted to the side for a centrifugal aeration fan.

Abstract: An air conditioning system and methods of use regulate a moisture content of an agricultural product in a grain bin. The system receives headspace air from the headspace of the grain bin, which generally has a higher moisture content than ambient air. The system further receives ambient air and mixes the headspace air and the ambient air into a ratio comprising a target moisture content. The air mixture is provided into a grain bin plenum, where it then permeates through to agricultural product, thereby regulating the moisture. The system and method can be used to bring the agricultural product to a target moisture content that is preferred when storing the agricultural product.

Abstract: An aeration apparatus for a grain storage bin with a hopper bottom in which the apparatus includes (i) a primary duct extending diametrically across the bin in proximity to a top of the hopper bottom, (ii) two first secondary ducts in communication with the primary duct and extending circumferentially of the bin in two opposing directions from the first end of the primary duct towards respective discharge openings, and (iii) two second secondary ducts in communication with the primary duct and extending circumferentially of the bin in two opposing directions from the second end of the primary duct towards respective discharge openings. An inlet duct communicates the bin wall between an external aeration fan and the first end of the primary duct within the bin such that the fan is directed horizontally and coaxially with the primary duct.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and/or system for automatically controlling ventilation of a grain storage bin to maintain the grain parameters within a predefined range. The disclosed system includes a ventilation control system and a plurality of ventilation fans installed to the storage bin. The ventilation control system includes a fan switch control unit, a weather station, and a plurality of grain characteristics monitoring devices. The fan switch control unit includes a first switch and a second switch to constantly operate the plurality of ventilation fans on receiving an alarm signal from the weather station and/or the grain characteristics monitoring devices. The weather station transmits the alarm signal to deactivate plurality of ventilation fans when the captured external parameters deviate from predefined external temperature-humidity range. The grain characteristics monitoring devices transmit the alarm signal to activate plurality of ventilation fans when the captured grain parameters deviate from predefined grain temperature-humidity range.

Abstract: A method for silaging harvested crops includes distributing and compacting silage consisting of shredded foliage plants in a silo. The silo is then sealed and then fermented in the silo. At least one part of the silage is flushed with an inert gas after an aerobic phase of the fermentation is detected with a first sensor. The inert gas may also be introduced into the silage if a penetration of atmospheric oxygen is detected in the silage with a second sensor.

Abstract: Combine harvesters are provided for use in harvesting seed corn from corn plants in fields. In connection therewith, a method for producing such seed corn from the corn plants, for use in growing subsequent corn plants, includes measuring a moisture content of corn kernels on ears of the corn plants in the field and removing, by one of the combine harvesters, the ears of corn from the corn plants when the moisture content satisfies a threshold moisture content. The method then includes separating the corn kernels from cobs of the ears of corn onboard the combine harvester and collecting the separated corn kernels for use as seed corn, whereby one or more subsequent corn plants can be grown from the collected corn kernels.

Abstract: An integrated grain drying/storage/regulating bin with a built-in bellows and an externally disposed compartment comprises an integrated bin body, a grain distributing device, an external compartment outside the integrated bin body, an internal bellows inside the integrated bin body, a heating device, a refrigerating device, a humidifying device, an air flow distributing device, a centrifugal fan, and an air flow control valve. The merits of the present invention are: (1) being able to prevent the occurrence of moisture condensation; (2) facilitating production cost reductions; (3) uniformly heating and drying the grains in the bin; (4) being capable of preventing the filter for the grain layers in the bin from blockage or short circuit caused by spontaneous grain grading; (5) being able to implement low temperature or quasi-low temperature storage; and (6) being capable of enhancing grain toughness, lowering breakage rate, and increasing production yield and product quality.

Abstract: Embodiments of systems and approaches for managing post-harvest crop quality and pests are described. Such a system may include a plurality of edge devices each comprising sensor components and collectively forming a mesh network, for measuring the local physical environment within stored crops and, for example, transmitting the measurements to a service from within the crop storage area. In certain embodiments, such a system may be used to manage post-harvest crops and storage areas—for example, approaches are described for determining fumigation treatment duration, determining phosphine dosage, determining heat treatment duration, and determining safe storage time for crops.
