Abstract:
A wedge-shaped trailer tailgate providing a loading ramp and a planar surface in combination with the trailer deck when the tailgate is in its transport position. A planar deck is better for cargo hauling, but also provides little wind resistance for improved hauling efficiency. The wedge shape with elastic bumpers attached provides for support on loading heavy objects such as motorcycles. Taillights are recessed into the thick end of the wedge-shaped trailer tailgate so they face backward when the tailgate is in its transport position and are shielded under the trailer deck when the tailgate is in its loading-ramp position.
Abstract:
A cargo bed with multiple access points. The cargo bed comprises a front member, a back member, a cargo floor, and a pair of side members that move to allow access to the cargo floor from nearly all sides so as to allow a member access to the cargo floor from the sides of the cargo bed. The side members may rotate about an axis horizontal to the cargo floor, roll on a set of rails with an axis vertical to the cargo floor, open about an axis vertical to the cargo floor, or be removable. The cargo bed may further comprise receiving beams for receiving the side members and holding them in a closed position, or the receiving beams may be integrally built into the front, back, or side members.
Abstract:
This invention submission pertains to the automotive industry, specifically for Pickup Trucks. This invention is for any pickup truck or vehicle with a tailgate. The newly designed tailgate folds forward and lays into a 2″-3″ recessed area of the pickup truck bed. The idea of this invention has many positives. The new design eliminates any blind spots behind the vehicle, increasing the drivers visibility and safety and also increases fuel economy since there is no wind resistance from the tailgate being in the closed position and easier loading and unloading capabilities. The Safety Travel Tailgate can be offered in a manual or automatic model. In addition to the redesign of the tailgate, The Eagle Eye Perfect View Mirror contains both a normal traffic vision, and downward angle vision, which increases the vision behind the vehicle, without having to adjust the mirror.
Abstract:
A tailgate for a vehicle with side walls and a bed has a supplemental tailgate that retracts within a tailgate frame and is extendable therefrom. The supplemental tailgate may include a guide system secured generally between the rear panel and the front panel of the tailgate frame, a movable frame assembly having two telescoping supports extendable from, pivotable relative to and retained by the guide system. The supplemental tailgate may also include a cross member connected to the two telescoping supports and extending therebetween. A lock rod assembly telescopically extends from and is pivotable relative to the cross member, with the lock rod assembly including a lock rod bar having a lock rod latch affixed thereto that is adapted to releasably latch to one of the vehicle side walls to thereby support the movable frame portion relative to the guide system when the tailgate frame is in the generally horizontal open position and the movable frame assembly is pivoted upward relative to the tailgate frame.
Abstract:
This Retractable Auxiliary Tailgate relates to a new and useful tailgate design for trucks, vans, sport utility vehicles, station wagons, and the like, and may be used to effectively extend the length of a vehicle's payload section.
Abstract:
This invention is a lift kit for conventional trailers which include a foldable tailgate or trailer ramps mounted for pivotal movement about a gate or ramp axis from a transport position wherein the gate or ramps are elevated for transport to an unload position wherein the gate is lowered to permit removal of objects carried on the trailer, which incorporates a heavy duty helical elongated spring having a plurality of coils with one end fixedly mounted at the trailer end, and at the other end of the spring an adjustment which resists the force of gravity as the gate or ramps move from its upper travel position to its lower unload position which is fixedly mounted to the trailer gate or trailer ramp.
Abstract:
A vehicle tailgate limiter system for a vehicle includes a cargo bed, a tailgate pivotally attached to the cargo bed operable between a closed vertical position and a deployed horizontal position, a pin having a head portion and a base portion, and a slotted bracket adapted to receive the pin when the tailgate is in a deployed horizontal position.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for coupling a vehicle body panel partition for pivotal movement between an upright and a retracted position. A mounting includes hinge sets formed from two hinge leafs, each hinge leaf being used to retain one of the alternate ends of the torsion rod pin extending through aligned pivot portions on each pin leaf. Preferably, each hinge set is integrally formed with the torsion pin by retainers holding ends of the torsion pin with respect to each of the leafs. In the preferred embodiment, a return bent end of the torsion pin is received in an extended support member while the other end is retained in a returned bent portion of the second leaf, each end extending in a radial direction aligned at an angle to the direction of the other end.
Abstract:
A device in which an auxiliary force is applied to a loading deck side plate of a truck to reduce the force required for opening and closing the side plate. A spring is provided on the underside of the loading deck to pull a rod substantially horizontally. A swing link is provided below a side end portion of the loading deck, and the tip of the swing link and an outer surface of the side plate are connected together through a connecting link in such a manner that the tip of the swing link points obliquely upward or downward when the side plate is closed or fully open, respectively. The tip of the rod and an intermediate portion of the swing link are connected together through an intermediate link. The underside of the intermediate link is brought into contact with a roller, or a link roller is provided on the underside of the intermediate link and is contacted with a rail member; thereby changing the direction and magnitude of the spring force exerted on the swing link, to obtain a desired auxiliary force varying characteristic. Since such a large-sized bell crank contained in the prior art is not used, the vertical size of the portion located inside the swing link can be reduced.
Abstract:
A vehicle gate hinge construction in which a vehicle frame member disposed along the side of the frame is tubular and of rectangular cross section, having at the location where the gate hinge is mounted an open space provided in its upper horizontal wall and an open space provided in its outer vertical wall, the open spaces being contiguous at the juncture of the upper horizontal wall and outer vertical wall, a hinge member having a pintle and a pair of leaf members, the pintle being disposed generally inwardly of the tubular member at the juncture of the upper horizontal wall and outer vertical wall, the first of the leaf members being secured to the upper horizontal wall in said open space therein, and the second of the leaf members being secured to a vehicle gate for swinging of the gate between an upright position and a downward position, the socket for the hinge pintle being disposed in the open space in the outer vertical wall at said juncture between said upper horizontal wall and the outer vertical wall, the second leaf member being offset at a distance from said pintle to extend when disposed uprightly in a plane intermediate the planes of the outer and inward vertical walls of the said frame member.
