    Abstract: A method of classifying a plastic, wherein the plastic is plasticized by supplying plasticizing energy in the form of mechanical and/or thermal energy with an increase in a temperature of the plastic from an initial temperature value to a final temperature value, a volume and/or a mass of the plastic and the supplied plasticizing energy is detected as measurement parameters by measurement means, in dependence on the detected measurement parameters, the initial temperature value, and the final temperature value at least one of the following is ascertained: a thermal capacity of the plastic and/or a change in enthalpy of the plastic and/or a parameter which can be derived by calculation from the thermal capacity and/or the change in enthalpy, and a plastic group including the plastic is identified on the basis of the ascertained thermal capacity and/or the ascertained change in enthalpy and/or the parameter which can be derived therefrom by calculation.

    Abstract: A plasticizing screw for a molding machine, includes a base element which is stretched along a longitudinal axis and a screw tip which is connected to the base element, and the screw tip is located after the base element. A return flow shut-off device includes a first anterior limit stop, a second posterior limit stop, and a shut-off ring movable in a limited manner between the two limit stops along the longitudinal axis. The first, anterior limit stop comprises a first limit stop surface facing towards the base element and the shut-off ring. The shut-off ring comprises a ring-shaped screw tip abutting surface facing towards the first, anterior limit stop. The screw tip abutting surface is formed rotationally symmetric around the longitudinal axis, and the first limit stop surface comprises a convex curvature facing towards the shut-off ring.

    Abstract: In a method for determining at least one parameter for the description of the compression behavior of a material processed in a molding machine, at least a part of the processed material is introduced into a mold cavity via a distribution system and a gate, and the processed material solidifies in the mold cavity. A compression test is performed in which a volume storing the material is modified and a measurement of the resulting pressure modification is conducted or a pressure applied onto the material is modified and a measurement of the resulting modification of the volume is conducted. A parameter for the description of the compression behavior is calculated based on the result of the compression test by using a mathematical model. The compression test is conducted when the gate is at least substantially solidified or when the hot runner is closed.

    Abstract: A method of determining a solution state of a gas in a plastic melt used in a plastic shaping method includes: (vi) providing the plastic melt together with the gas in a chamber, (vii) altering—in particular reducing—a volume of the chamber to alter a pressure of the plastic melt together with the gas—in particular increased from a first pressure value to a second pressure value, (viii) introducing the plastic melt into a shaping cavity, (ix) computing at least one compression parameter characteristic of the compression behaviour of the plastic melt, in particular a modulus of compression, from the first pressure value and the second pressure value, and (x) determining from the at least one compression parameter whether the gas is substantially completely dissolved in the plastic melt and/or a solubility limit of the gas in the plastic melt is determined from the at least one compression parameter.
