Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for positioning electrodes using a single control surface. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes an actuator shaft defining a lumen through which a primary electrode and a secondary electrode are linearly movable. A primary actuator is movably couplable with the actuator shaft and a primary electrode with the primary actuator being configured to extend and retract the primary electrode. A secondary actuator is movably couplable with the primary actuator and a secondary electrode with the secondary actuator being configured to extend and retract the secondary electrode. An actuator controller is configured to move along the shaft in a first direction to engage and motivate the primary actuator and is further configured to move along the shaft in a second direction to engage and motivate the secondary actuator. The primary actuator and the secondary actuator are sequentially manipulatable using only the actuator controller.

Abstract: A forceps having at least a first jaw with a longitudinal axis is disclosed. The first jaw can include a body portion, a first flange, a second flange and a cam pin. The first flange can define a first cam slot with a longitudinal extent along the longitudinal axis. The second flange can be spaced from the first flange a distance transverse to the longitudinal axis of the first jaw and can have a second cam slot. The cam pin, with a longitudinal axis, can be moveably secured within the first cam slot and the second cam slot. A diameter of the cam pin can be less than a width between a first longitudinal edge that defines a first side of each of the first cam slot and the second cam slot and a second longitudinal edge that defines a second opposing side of each of the first cam slot and the second cam slot so that the cam pin is moveably received by both the first cam slot and the second cam slot. With the first jaw pivoted to at least a first position, the cam pin and first flange can be configured such that the first longitudinal edge is contacted by the cam pin but the second longitudinal edge is spaced from the cam pin. The cam pin and second flange can be configured such that the first longitudinal edge is spaced from the cam pin but the second longitudinal edge is contacted by the cam pin.

Abstract: A surgical device, such as a debrider, can include an elongated inner shaft that is movable within an elongated, hollow outer shaft. An actuator can controllably impart movement to a proximal portion of the inner shaft. A cutting element, located at a distal portion of the inner shaft, can move with the inner shaft. The outer shaft can expose the cutting element as the inner shaft moves. The inner shaft can include a flexible inner shaft portion. A plurality of bearings, located between the inner shaft and the outer shaft along the flexible inner shaft portion, can space the flexible inner shaft portion with respect to the outer shaft as the inner shaft moves. The plurality of bearings can help reduce friction between the inner shaft and the outer shaft and help maintain concentricity of the inner shaft and the outer shaft.

Abstract: A nephroscope can include a body that is at least partially insertable into a kidney of a patient. An articulation controller on a grippable proximal portion of the body can adjust a position of a flexible distal portion of the body to locate a kidney stone when the body is inserted into the kidney of the patient. The articulation controller can optionally releasably lock the articulation of the flexible distal portion, to fixedly position the flexible distal portion at a specified location proximate the kidney stone. The distal end of the body can include an illuminator to illuminate the kidney stone, a camera to provide a video image of the illuminated kidney stone, an optical fiber to deliver laser light that ablates the kidney stone, and an irrigation lumen and a suction lumen to flush the kidney stone and remove kidney stone fragments.
