Abstract: A diving mask includes a nose cover and a valve seat of a drainage mechanism having a check valve formed in the vicinity of the nose cover. The nose cover and the value seat are formed from an elastic material which is integral with a soft elastic material forming the nose cover. Abstract: Viewing enhancing apparatus for visibility impaired fluid, such as turbid water or a smoke-filled room, includes a fluid-permeable sidewall and a housing defining a confluence cavity having an axis extending between first and second housing ends. The housing ends are connected by the sidewall. The second housing end is open. The sidewall has a proximal end towards the first housing end and a distal end towards the second housing end. The housing defines a supply cavity surrounding the sidewall and coupleable to a source of viewing fluid, typically clear water when operating in a turbid water environment. The sidewall provides a resistance to flow of the viewing fluid therethrough, the resistance varying according to the position on the sidewall. The viewing fluid passes through the confluence cavity and exits the second housing end. This creates a chosen velocity profile for the viewing fluid exiting the second housing end.

Abstract: A case for a mask includes a first panel secured to a second panel to form a pouch into which the mask may be inserted and removed. The second panel may include a pair of overlapping panel sections defining an opening for insertion of the mask. Apertures on either side of the case accommodate passage of a strap attached to the mask. Alternatively, straps may be permanently secured to the case. Closure elements on either side of the opening maintain the case in a closed position. The case may be positioned behind the user's head when the mask is being used, cushioning the strap, and may be inverted into a storage configuration to cover at least the mask lens. The closure elements are oriented in mutually facing relation in both configurations to maintain the case closed. Panels of the case may be made of floatable synthetic materials or may include light-weight or net materials to promote drying of the case and mask following use. Various embodiments are disclosed for the substantially complete enclosing of a mask within a pouch, as well as an embodiment for the covering only of the outer surfaces of the primary lenses of a mask, those surfaces being the most vulnerable to scratching in unprotected storage, whereby the uncovered portions of the mask remain exposed to ambient air and may thereby dry more quickly. Also disclosed is a method of protecting a mask, such as are used in diving and/or skiing, from scratching of lenses and similar damage or degradation while in storage by at least partially enclosing the mask within a pouch, the pouch being formed by reconfiguring a cushion of the strap for the mask.

Abstract: Mirrorized compartments for extending a diver's vertical, lateral and posterior fields of vision. Abstract: A diving mask having hemispherically-shaped lenses mounted on a flexible gasket or portion and fitted to the contours of a user's face. Laser scanning or topographic mapping is used to determine the contours of the user's face. Edges of the hemispherically-shaped lenses are then shaped to fit the contours of the face. As a result, the spherical center of the lenses substantially coincides with the optical nodal point of the user's eyes, or the center of rotation of the eyes. This virtually eliminates the phenomenon of underwater magnification-distortion caused by the difference in refractive indices of water and air. The diving mask may also have hemispherically-shaped lenses mounted on a support portion. The support portion, in turn, is mounted on a flexible gasket of selected size. A secure seal is provided between the diving mask and a user's face by the flexible gasket. The diving mask may be provided with at least one purge valve. The diving mask may be used with retractable corrective lenses, if desired. The diving mask may be used with bottom lenses which provide vision both above and below water. Hemispherically-shaped meniscus lenses may be used with the diving mask. The meniscus lenses are designed to provide optimal peripheral vision, while reducing weight and facilitating drainage of water from the mask.
