A template for aligning and installing an electrical device box in a wall is herein disclosed. The template is a flat, planar plate having a peripheral edge and an interior cutout formed therethrough. The interior cutout is shaped to allow the insertion of the body of an electrical device box therein in close conformity therewith. At least one portion of the peripheral edge of the template is aligned with the interior cutout such that when the template is aligned with a mark on the wall, the interior cutout of the template will also be aligned with the mark. Tracing the inner cutout of the template onto a wall defines a cutout for the electrical device box. The template may be interposed between the electrical device box and the wall to act as a support flange for the installation of the electrical device box. A leveling device may be secured to the template to aid in aligning the template upon the wall.

The positions of electrical boxes, switches and outlets are marked and accurately located by use of an integrated measuring apparatus having multiple sets of slots, indicia printed on left and right edges of the front side of the apparatus, and levels for positioning the apparatus vertically. The integrated electrician's measurement apparatus locates the electrical boxes, switches and outlets in horizontal level even when an irregular floor is present. Such electrical devices are positioned at required distances that meet code requirements without need for additional tools. Location and installation of the boxes is facilitated. The boxes are positioned quickly and accurately in compliance with applicable code requirements. Portions of pertinent sections of the code are provided for ready reference on the body of the integrated electrician's measuring apparatus.

A device for locating the position of a receptacle in a wall which is covered during the construction process. The receptacle locating device includes a guide module, such as a plate-shaped body with an interior opening conforming to the configuration of a receptacle, for indicating the receptacle. The receptacle locating device also includes an attachment module for connecting the guide module to a portion of a mounting apparatus, such as a leg of a squaring tool. When another portion of the mounting apparatus, such as the other leg of the squaring tool, is held against a second wall, such as the floor, that intersects the first wall, the receptacle locating device attached to the mounting apparatus can be aligned with the receptacle and later used to pinpoint the location of the receptacle after the receptacle is subsequently covered. The present invention also provides a method for locating an opening through a sheet material for a receptacle installed to a framework of a wall and coverable with the sheet material.
